Actually Spud, the color shown on the can lid seems to match your car better than what was shown on fatdog's conceptual M70. In fact, I think it would match your car perfectly!

Ok I just love underdogs so while the maroon can wasn't nearly the top vote getter, I just love to "buck" the trend so I thought I'd go for the maroon. A couple reasons -- first, I wanted something sufficiently different from the original to be worthwhile. I didn't want a subtle change -- I wanted a facelift worthy of TV. See, I want to win a spot on a TV show!

All kidding aside, it was a hard choice and I think I'd want to eventually try all of them. I don't currently have another M70 but I just might have to get more so I can have a color collection :w00t:. Well, I actually have a bunch of Sony CF-580's so I just might rebuild them all in succession and a different color each time.

Not gonna post the entire job -- I'll do a new post when it's ready. For now, I thought you'd all be interested in a "teaser" of what it might look like. Some trim is still off so you'll have to use your imagination. Also, the naked back cover doesn't look so good when paired with the new front cover -- bad contrast, old meets new, and just poor color pairing. So I'm thinking fresh satin black or charcoal for the rear cover.

Well, I thought I'd give Fatdog's new tiny pic module a try so here goes. ENJOY!

HERE IS THE ORIGINAL "PRE-PAINTED" M70

HERE IS THE PAINTED COVER. IT'S NOT DONE YET -- STILL NEED TO FINISH BUFFING OUT THE ORANGE PEEL AND DUST SPECKS. YOU'LL NEED TO USE YOUR IMAGINATION. THE HANDLE IS STILL OFF, AND THE TRIM IS NOT GOING TO BE REINSTALLED UNTIL ALL IS BUFFED OUT. IT'S TEDIOUS SO IT'S PROBABLY NOT GOING TO BE PERFECT -- IT'LL BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME THOUGH. I ACTUALLY LIKE HOW IT'S DEVELOPING AND I THINK THIS MIGHT END UP TO BE AMONGST MY FAVORITES WHEN DONE. I'M ALREADY RELISHING THE WAY IT'S LOOKING SO FAR.

WOW! that looks awesome!

There's still some rubbing compound residue in some of the nooks/crannies but overall, I'm quite pleased. I think I'm gonna retrofit this one with a light on/off toggle mod and maybe an LED upgrade. Since I'm doing all this work, I might as well go all out! Wonder how the tuner dial will respond to colored lighting, as opposed to just white lit dial.
