My Two Cents....

First my date codes are 91 - 975 and 89 - 935

A hand full of years ago (2-3) a few 975's showed up on eBay fully boxed, brand new. I read one (possibly 2) descriptions saying it was "Old Stock" from the Lasonic factory!

In deed those stickers are different, and I too would lean towards a second run, maybe of all the same parts BUT the sticker

The point being....

I think it's totally possible for there to be left over parts at the factory and with a few new parts and new stickers reprinted, your making 975's!

But if you look the stickers are same it just look like someone wrote in pen on it and I think the sticker was plain either from factory or when the sticker was stamped on machine it was off and never got stamped. I am not sure when this was produced but the written stamp seems fake :hmmm: Chris you have connection with James Wong, I have not talked with him since 2008 when I asked him about selling extra parts off the i931's.... Maybe you can ask him :-)

2000? Maybe

Well, I can try asking him, I wonder how long he has been with Lasonic?

I could ask him if the 975 was built into the 2000's.

Email sent to James and Lasonic

"Hello James,

We have a member with a TRC-975, it has a date code in the battery compartment that says "2000 . 3"

The date code is hand written, also the main sticker that says "Lasonic" is different. The question is, did Lasonic make 975's into the year 2000?

As always, thank you so much for your time.

Chris"

The Date code on mine is a bit worn off but I can tell it was hand written in pen as well.
Cant make out the date on mine :-/
Mine also has the colored Jacks but it has the Straight Lasonic Letters.

ANSWER FROM JAMES AT LASONIC: INCONCLUSIVE

"Hi, Chris

Good Morning!

Thanks for your good question,, TRC-975 is very old model for us, I think this model make before 2000, if your member have the one is 2000, so I think those is last shipment Lasonic make. Inconvenience I did not know what date for this model factory is stop production,,( is very old model )

Best Regards

James Wong"

My date code in my 975 says 98 (in pen) 11 (stamped)
So it is from 1998 :w00t: I didn't know it was younger than me :w00t: .
Still straight Lasonic writing on it :hmmm:

The date codes on my Lasonics are hard to read. From what i can tell, my 935 is from 1989 and the 975 is from 1993. As for boxes with a date near 2000, I don't know. I can remember looking for jobsite radios back around that time and there was nothing remotely resembling the big, one piece boxes like these Lasonics. Even if someone bought one new from some back stockroom somewhere, it would still have an old date code. They were manufactured in Taiwan, and I can't imagine them pumping out any new ones in 2000+. Even if the date code said 2003, I would still think the box would have been assembled years earlier. But I could be dead wrong.

:agree: :agree: After I purchased mine in 1993 I never really seen anything even close for sale until the new I931 came out :hmmm: And believe it or not I was not too excited to see the I931 because i thought it looked cheap until I bought my 1st black one in 2008

This is all very interesting, the hand written date codes and the stamped ones. If there would have been just one hand written one, I would think it was B.S., but since there are a few of them, it has to be real.

Pretty damn cool, you got one of the newest, probably least abused 975's out there....

I know I am so stoked to have a clean working unit. Ever since I found this site and S2G I have wanted a 975. Obviously for the looks and the SIZE!

Of course, it's hard not to see the big blasters and fall in love. This goes for the first time I saw the 777, the C100F, the Wheely, the 935, the....oh, I'm sure I don't have to go on

Ok ladies - there is another version of the 975. So 3 confirmed versions as of now.

My original one has black tweeters and all black mic jack holes.

The 975 I just got from Master Z has red tweeters and METAL mic jack holes :hmmm: .

The red tweeters may not be original due to them all being a standard size including the 8" white woofs which are standard on all boxes from trc931 to I931and in between :hmmm: Sure would be nice if Lasonic had all info on these bbx's
