Single stage paint was the way to go!

Thank goodness this worked out finally :breakdance: .

Makes the metallic pop even more and brightens up the finish. Grills were repainted also.

Now I have to let it sit for a few days before handling so the paint fully cures :dunce: .

SUPER happy right now :w00t:    :surf:

I like it..... but he flattened the HELL out of the paint before shooting it. I said that a semi gloss/gloss would be just right and it ended up being really flat :-/ .

After this paint sets up I might still end up shooting a satin clear over it.... :dunce: . I like it, but again, just not quite what I was wanting.

  I just shot the top panel with clear

I'm to the point where I don't give a F---k! :dunce:

Front case just got shot with the final coat of clear - pics of that LATER, but checkout the clear on the top panel

Actually turned out how I want it to look  . I'm tired

I think getting all the trimmings back on the boombox and the shiney gold and silver pieces will finish it off nice. Right now the pictures make the new finish look almost brown, but it is a nice vibrant gold/champane that will look great in natural light..... assembly begins tomorrow! woo hoo

Coming together nicely..... need to decide if I am waiting for the LED kit to get here or if I will open it again and install it later.... :hmmm:

Great Work ! Job well done

these things don't come easy as I'm sure your fully aware of but in the end it's worth the extra effort and provided everything works the finished product will be very rewarding

The goal right now was to get it complete and refinished. Bad news is cassette still has issues, the FM radio is being a jerk, and the bass/treble sliders don't work  .

Line in sounds great!
Installed replacement antennas, got another slider cap, and installed the SUPERDUPER amber/white LED kit  . I have better pictures at home, here are some quick pics from the camera at work :surf: .

That turned out pretty good, Joe. What is the problem with the cassette deck?

Thanks for the kind words guys!!!! I am happy that I actually ended up with one refinished M71 that LOOKs fantastic! :w00t:  . I didn't think I would have enough parts even having two boxes to pull from.

-Cassette mech has no playback/ff/rw, etc..... The AAMS light goes on, I can't get it to lock onto skipping any amount of songs, but if I depress play/ff or play/rw it will light up and show like it is actually doing the music search. I'm sure the issues with this are because of the circuit board, so when I go back in I will swap out the mech and board from the parts box M71. Belt looks to be good. Motor doesn't turn the spindals, not sure if motor is running or not.

Here is the damage the previous owner did to the circuit board and I will show you what a normal one looks like:

broken board (though, it looks to be that no circuit traces were broken and that this section of that board is really just to hold what is shown in the pic) :

good one:

And for some reason this random orange wire was cut and had the ends tapped off, but I soldered them together and I don't know why they it was cut in the first place or what that wire is even for :dunce:  :nonono:

The wiring on those two boards doesn't match 100%. That could be the problem.

The actual circuit paths actually do match, but someone was obviously messing with it and de-soldered and moved around some stuff :dunce: .

Idiots.

Luckily I have the parts box and that boombox looks like no one has ever been in it besides the loose screws on the rear case. I will swap those and see what happens.

The FM concerns me more than anything..... :-/ Was working fine before, now not so good
