Check this out, this must be the most rare version of this box. Instead of the big black needles, it has LED meters in the upper left corner. This is an MX820 from an Australian catalog. Never seen one like this before!

Isn't that the MX 830 ?. I'm pretty sure Sanyo only made two variants the 820/830 unless I'm mistaken.

Congrats Chris, cleaned up great. Yeah, Sanyos are notorious for missing reference designators and having few plugs, mostly chaotic soldered wires and those one-way wire terminals.

There's also this apparently Japanese version, the MR-F1.
I have never seen one for sale anywhere though.

it's getting warmer now - thanks! It might be easier to catch her on Yahoo JP than
in Aussie.
In almost 10 years I have never seen one on Yahoo JP. Maybe it was just a prototype?

Congrats on such a rare find, that MX-824 is on my radar as well even though I've never seen one for sale anywhere.

Wow, that thing is beautiful! I really like the way you pour your heart and soul into the restoration of these boxes, and your documentation of the process is excellent too. Congrats on this great find!

Hard to say now without further evidence. Recallsharp mentioned that there had been "a test batch" produced for JDM but this is of course unconfirmed data.

I have always been curious, what does "recallsharp" mean?
That's simple, sort of wordplay, the very first Japanese box of the site founder or owner (or one of them) was SHARP GF-700Z back in 84.
That's why Recall (recall, recollect) Sharp. :) Besides, it may just sound great. Plus, Sharp's was the most popular box brand back then.
This is IMO as this story of the first Sharp purchase is on the "About us" site page but no explanations re site name genesis :) are exactly given.
