My mom and dad went around to some yard sales this morning with specific instructions to call me if they found anything I might like. Well the phone rang about 0748 CDT and my mother told me they found a "some sort of JVC boombox that's heavy as all get-out." I said I don't care what it is - GET IT.

Well, they just now made it back home and gave me another call. My mom started giving me the model number...

P as in Paul...

C as in cat...

I'm thinking to myself "OH MAN THIS IS GETTING GOOD!!!"

dash...

2...

J as in Jenkins...

W as in white.

I just about dropped the phone! :w00t: :-O :w00t: They found a JVC PC-2JW at a yard sale!! Here's the REAL kicker...

Price was listed as $5 and my mom got it for $3.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm about to head out in a few minutes to go get it. She said the antenna was still there and everything appeared to be in good condition - just kind of dirty.

Woohoooooooooo!

oh and i could be wrong but i seem to remember this unit being pretty big.i came across one that was to far gone at a thrift a while back. i think it is a pretty decent size. not like crazy big but i kind of remember is being taller than a pc55 and slightly less as long.

Booby? I've been called worse.

I just got back. Yeah, it's very dirty. I'm not going to worry with internals just yet. The Hitachi TRK-W550H is all over the kitchen table at the moment. I'll give the PC-2 a good cleaning on the outside and post some pictures.

Give me a few minutes. :-)

Alright, I gave the outside a quick cleaning (I got sidetracked watching a crappy movie called The Cave). Anyway, here it is:

jvc-pc2jw.jpg

The switches need a good cleaning. The balance knob is cracked on the part that slides over the shaft - no biggie though. The cassette plays - probably original belts. And the antenna tip is broken off. Why is it ALWAYS the tip??

The one thing that became painfully obvious when I powered it up...

NO BASS! :annoyed:

My snapping fingers produce more bass than this boombox. Was this thing really designed by JVC or was it a re-badge of another company's design.

Looks great bobby but if has no bass JVC cut some big corners somewhere.
I hear you about the antenna tip, seems lots of people were really rough yanking the antennas up and banging them into the end of their travel.
