Ha, that made me laugh - I can just imagine them all sat in a circle, looking down at their own boomboxes whilst ever raising their voices to be heard above the rest. Yes, it'd sound more like an outdoor boombox market!!!JVC Floyd said:people are gonna look silly in that therapy session , everybody hold a boombox in their laps arguing over which one is the best lol.
I agree. It's uncomplicated, uncluttered design is easy on the eye but I do think Sharp missed a trick by not having lights in the tuner window and VU meter - an illuminated tape deck and rotary volume knob would have been bonuses as well. That said, there has to be credit given for those super-dooper BB's with an (over) abundance of classic knobs, dials, switches, levers, sliders and a couple of those "What does this one 'ere do, eh?" controls!Lasonic TRC-920 said:IMHO, the 9000 is one of the best looking radio's ever. And those VU's
Yes, do that. Even if the BB is a wreck it'll be good for practice and, the more that time passes, the more difficult it will be to find original parts.Ambience said:Man, I love these GF 9000s. I'm hoping to find one eventually, but this thread gives me hope that if I do find a rough one, there's still a chance to bring it back! Nice work, especially on those woofers, I'm almost contemplating doing this on my Panasonic 5085.
Bill, One good antenna is enough for great boxes. Look at Panasonic RX 5350 and it got only one and has the best radio reception. The twin antenna is just a show off!baddboybill said:Great story and awesome save!!!!! I love the 9000 looks especially the needle VU's but often wondered why for such a large unit it only has single antenna

Thanks, ralrein1. Yes, I have all the materials for making the new clear cover for the cassette door, I'll be rolling mt sleeves up sometime over the winter for this job - and I'll certainly keep a photographic record for the thread.ralrein1 said:Hi there,myohmy---what a great post you have here!I really enjoyed all the pics of your fine restoration job. Please keep us informed on your progress on this great boomer of yours.Am I right in believing your fixin' the cassette door next? Can't wait to see what is next.
Will do and many thanks, Hisrudeness! I usually check his listings every 10 days or so, now's the time.Hisrudeness said:Christine, before you start the surgery just check on EBay with Icemelon. I noticed he was breaking a 9000/535 and might have a door if you message him.
Those black painted speaker cones looks even better than oem beige cones. Brilliant job!MyOhMy said:Well, here we are folks - new ariel fitted, cleaned, painted and sorted (except no FM reception at the mo), only a base/treble slider and a replacement clear Perspex cover for the cassette compartment needed for the outside now!

I never thought for one moment my GF9000 would ever look as good or work as well as this again so I say "Thank you, All" for your encouragement and inspiration! I'll replace the bands at some future point - GULP!!!
