Bluetooth beaten to death already, still have questions....

The Amazon one I use has no facility for USB because there's no battery to charge, its regulator chip provides the receiver with the correct supply from an input anywhere between 3v and 18v.
The one downside is that there are boxes where fitting this type in a small stowage compartment wouldn't be possible as it's quite large. That said; it does go in the lead storage compartments on both my Hitachi 3D and the Philips 774. In the Philips, the mains lead still fits in there with the BT receiver and the 5 pin DIN plug comes through the Philips' mains lead exit hole and reaches to the (DIN) line in socket on the side of the box. :hmmm: I might try one of the smaller ones in one of my more cramped radios.

One thing is for sure...

There are options!

If you want bluetooth and no mods, you can plug into your RCA's and plug in one of these little units and you are good to go

If you want a slight mod, you can solder up to the inside of your RCA's (inside the box) and run a plug to the deck and use the battery powered unit

OR you can go for the full monte and wire it all internally.

Always nice to have some options.

I may try this unit Mr Fuz has show in a new mega project I have going

I pulled a cigarette lighter charger apart and used the little PC Board to go from 12v to 5v USB, then you can plug any cell phone USB plug into the bluetooth, no need to remove the battery.

You will however need to be able to get to the POWER ON button on the receiver. Again, this is why I just put a wire in the cassette deck so I can open the door and turn it on. Some radio's like Lasonic, have a space in the battery compartment for the power cord, it fits in there as well. It powers off automatically when there is no signal for some time.
I have a bunch of these little USB wall chargers, maybe I'll wire one up to 120V inside and drill a tiny hole on the side of the tape deck bay inside for the button. Hmm... sounds good to me :-)

There are threads on here of someone doing just that :-D

I set up the Miccus over the weekend and it isn't 100% with its connection to my Samsung Galaxy. It sounds great but it will drop out for a moment randomly even though the phone is sitting right next to it, and eventually disconnects and the phone pauses the song. I'm assuming the Miccus is fine and my phone is a POS, because it would only pair on previous OS versions.

I'm bummed because if my phone can't deliver tunes then I'll have to use something else. Might be working on my memory card mod sooner than I wanted to.

Well that just sucks!

I know  It's okay though, I'm thinking I'll try something like the Sansa instead.

It also sounded wrong through the line-in of a DIN jack. From what I read it seems you have to add some resistors to correct the level and sound profile.

So goes the theory and - in most cases - the practice, but bizarrely, some forum members have reported experiencing low levels from DIN inputs on some devices.
There should be sufficient adjustment on the input VRs on most - if not all - boxes to get a satisfactory level from a DIN connection.

Actually it sounds too loud and distorted, I think the DIN expects a lower signal because there is an amplifier circuit between it and the main amp board. 30-40 years ago things probably had weaker line levels. I could probably could find where to tap the audio signal past that, but will let that sleeping dog lie for now. I see many schematic differences between the US/Euro models.

Edit: I found my answer. Incredibly detailed. Could be useful. >>LINK<<

For those of you that didn't know, the BT module chip looks strange because it was made to be surface mounted to a board like shown in the vid below. You can still solder your wires direct to the module if you want to go that route.

I found one of these 12v dongles with wire whips for about $34 on epay and located in the USA. If you buy 2 it costs about $30 each, and if you buy more I think the price gets cheaper.

I also bought a project JVC M70 to install and test this on. I am hoping to tap into a switched 12v so the BT receiver isn't on all the time when the boombox is powered on.

Should be a fun project and just about all of us have a JVC M70, so the install information I share should be useful to a lot of us.

Stay tuned! Boombox and dongle should be here next week.

Cool man, please post detailed thread of install.

Could become the gold standard.

I'm sure we're all on the same page, but all I need is...

A hard wired unit that draws from the batteries
Turns on the antenna with the power switch (or switch of my choosing)
Once on is set to "Auto Connect"
Has output signal that can be sent to the in's on the amp board at correct level.
A2DP connectivity

Will do.

I'm hoping I can tie into the music search 'on/off' switch to power the BT module. I rarely ever use cassettes which means I have only touched the MMS switch a couple times. This would be a nice spot for it. Or, even if I used Norm's switched LED tuner board but used the switched section to power the tuner LEDs and the BT module.....

If not, I have a few more options.

It should be a pretty detailed how-to.

I'll be following this one for sure. I'm also curious how much current this would draw, and what effects it would have, if it was just powered on every time you turn the main unit on. Once the power switch on the box is on, so does the BT. Think it would be a significant drain?
