Seems to me there are a few solid options out there noticeably better then the venerable M9935K, that other Sanyo sure is a looker with those VU meters.

My vote would go for the M70. If you get the strap then weight is not an issue. It is a great sounding box with volume to spare and has very good battery life. The Lasonic TRC 931 would be my second choice as it has decent sound, gets very loud and is incredibly light. The 20/20 is a nice box but it just doesn't get loud enough for outdoor use, although I do like the sound when listeing to it indoors.

Melvin.

Your opinion about M70 can not be considered (because you is a M70 Addicted) :w00t:  ;-)

Cheers.

...so very, very true... :-D

But just as heavy as the RC838.

I love my Realistic scr8...but my clairtone 7978(rising 20/20) is louder.
Id strap either one on my back....if I had to
You can get an scr8 for 1/3 the cost of a 20/20

Hmm...well in my own personal case, that's mostly what I'm concerned about, the weight of the thing. Sounds like I need to be thinking SCR-8 or something similar. Those Aiwas look awesome, but I have rarely seen one of those pop up on eBay or any of the swap meets I go to.

What is the question?

M70.. Nice answer. :)
but for a bike, 9994 and m70 are a bit heavy.
Is weight the main criteria? What is it about your 9935 that you don't like?

I used to bike around with a toshiba , one piece, and never noticed the weight. Model 200 I think, 6150 is another light cheap model.
Also keep in mind that the 90s boomers are generally a lot lighter, and cheaper to replace.

Is a mini an option or do you like the classic medium size boombox look?

Well to answer everyone's question, I wanted to see which boxes ranked near the top in terms of lightweight size and good sound (volume, bass, etc.). My only gripe about the 9935 is that it's a little light in the volume and low end reproduction, the amps in that thing really can't hang with the big boys, so really I was curious what other boxes offer a better compromise.

Barrys_Bapz, I'm already working on a backpack design to take the big dogs out with me. It's not the weight as much as it is having a heavy boomer on my back, and breaking whatever attachment I have on it. I've done plenty of long backpacking trips with 50+ lbs. of gear, so I ain't no whimp when it comes to hauling stuff.

The GE 3-6035 only weighs 12 lbs which is 3-4 lbs lighter than most of the others mentioned here.
