some people just come to check out things i think. for recreational reasons but i think a lot of ebay sellers who are non collectors try to gauge prices as well.

...true, very true. I took my M90 to the community pool yesterday and there were some young kids there with an Ipod docking station with the speakers and the sound was loud, but scratchy and had no bass. When I turned on the M90 they were amazed at the volume and the punchy bass...and I only had it half way up. Needless to say they turned the little Ipod thing off... :-D

The box on the shoulder thing is only good for posing in pictures... And even then, it's still corny. ;-)

...I must admit that when I was a kid in the boombox era I NEVER saw anyone on the street carry a box that way. I think it was a media thing. I coudn't imagine carrying my M90 blasting on my shoulder...I would probably lose my hearing....

The interest is still there no doubt. I like when people comment to you when you carry a box around town. My neighbor says "people don't do that anymore, why don't you get an Ipod" - I told him because I like the reactions and I am wierd  . I will forever carry a box in public now that I know what it feels like.

Typical, just because something isn't "popular" anymore doesn't automatically mean it's somehow bad or wrong. These are the people who throw out things just because others don't use them anymore which I'm sure is why many boomboxes have died of a disrespectful and wasteful trip to the dump. :'-(

I once carried my biggest boombox on my shoulder for one or two hours... was actually not such a good idea cause my shoulder hurt the next morning. It was worth it anyeway :-)
A pro for carrying it on the shoulder though is that I often hit the line-in plugs in the back of the box when I carry it the normal way.

Boomboxes even attract people's attention when they're turned off. And then the usual reaction is "Turn it on! Turn it on! Play some music!" :-)

Aint that the truth jaetee. :-D
The only times I've really questioned my collecting boomers is when the space was over filled, a little adjusting typically takes care of this.

Well, if I'm completely honest... this site has had a lot to do with keeping my interest in boomers high.

I gotta give credit where credit is due and I'll give S2G a large part of the credit for initially getting me REALLY interested in seeking boomers out and starting my small collection.... But, this site coming along when it did kinda revived my interest and is doing a good job of keeping that interest level high.

Having made such good friends along the way (both in person at the meets, and abroad via email and tape trading) has all helped.

Without the online presence we have here, my interest would probably be about 1/3 of what it is....

This sight might as well be called BoomCatalyst.com

So your saying this site (Bobby) is responsible for your shorted bank account, lack of space and strained relationships?

Thanks Bobby! :-P

In terms of collectors losing interest, in my case, I've got (almost)every boombox I wanted. So I'm not actively buying or looking. However, I do notice there are more boomboxes in media. More t-shirts, movies, and TV-Commercials. Just saw a Sanyo C series? in a bread commercial, and it's pretty prominent in the commercial. So maybe there is more interest developing in the general public?
