I just think that its just the economy right now.......
I know lots of people including myself, really don't have the extra money right now. :sadno:
I've had to pass up a few units I've really wanted to get too. :'-(
I might have to sell a few of mine too if it slows down soon at work like they are predicting....... :grim: :-/
Also it seems like the boombox market picks up and slows down at certain times of the year.
Just my 2 cents....... :hmmm:

I don't think interest is waning but I do think the economy has affected not only price but the amount of trading that goes on. I believe those who love boomboxes always will but the number of collectors with 60 plus boxes has certainly gone down. I definitely love boomboxes and always will. It is a buyers market right now I am one of the lucky ones reaping the benefits. I have the chance at grails that were much more difficult to get in years past. I think the drop in prices will bring about a new crop of collectors who may not otherwise have been exposed to boomboxes...and that is definitely good.

The economy is pretty bad in the US.. :grim:
even those who still have jobs are not very secure.

Great buying opportunity though, for those who can. Buy now before the US fiat currency runs its course and becomes worthless
On the bright side, if that happens, maybe we can be issued real US dollars, not this foreign Federal Reserve paper.

I think the true mark of whether this is hapenning or not will be found in jameswp's recent auctions.
They were some seriously grail-licious radios in excellent condition. If they went cheaper than what
the expected values were then it's definitely contributing to the theory.

Rock On.

What definitely keeps the hobby fresh for most is getting new boxes .
At least for me trading or getting new boxes to work on or experience keeps me interested.
It has been real frustrating for me not being able to buy or trade as much lately
and has caused me to become a bit distant to the hobby but I have not lost interest.

I just got here too!

I understand what you are saying though. My collection has doubled in the last few weeks and now I am hiding some in the garage until it is safe to bring them out....

In .au things certainly dont seem to be slowing. There've been quite a few boxes recently on ebay for, what I think, are pretty expensive compared to this time last year. Our economy is not in as bad a way as the US though.
Pretty annoying really  I would love prices to go down for a while................

collecting boomboxes is a niche deal.
there is not a lot of people doing it.
overall i would have to say that some of the dabblers have moved on as well as some of the 80s revivalist people.
i think the desire for collecting radios in general is still pretty high but the demographic of who is collecting and also the ammount of liquid cash is different now than four years ago.

certain boomboxes are going to continue to bring big dollars but some of the others will most likely not.

It's the economy St*Up*D. Yep. When times get tough, money goes to food, housing... the essentials. And Yes, I DO see interest waning a bit.

I'm pretty sure the passion must still be alive in people's hearts. They're just too iconic and era-defining. I just think trade has slowed down due to the economy; the hobby isn't passe.

No problem here at all, I just significantly increased the number in my collection by being careful and wise. Part of the problem is the inflated prices and the economy and part of the problem is many members go straight to ebay so a lot less fair trading and fair buying through forums occurs. Shame.

:agree: and I think we've been seeing that here the last few months with an increase in new members just getting started.

I hope they are... To me, if the interest goes down, perhaps I can cop an expensive box on eBay real cheap!

No loss of interest here. I'm in it for the long haul as a keeper of the funk and advocate of the culture.
I've been really busy working 60+ hours a week so no time to check in as much as before.
As for new finds, nothing is coming my way so ill just have to be patient. Besides after having an m90 and a c100 as my latest "in the wild" finds, its gonna be tough to get impressed by new boxes! :-P
