I only have one, a JVC RC-X510 but im still new to the collecting business. I only picked up that one because its so hard to find boxes where I live and I came across it and got it cheap. I dont think I would go out of my way to collect them but if one shows up then I would probably buy it. I think some of them look quite cool in a retro tacky sort of way...

Who knows maybe a few years down the line they will become as desirable as 80's boxes.. :hmmm:

Also some of them do sound quite good!

if i had a spare few dollars maybe i would have grabbed it, but something stopped me. i'll see how i go with future purchases!

I leave a lot of 90's boxes on the shelves and only take the few good ones, there were some good boxes but they were mostly boring grey. Some like the Cobra's are fantastic but they are in the ugly egg style.

Some of the good ones are:
Panasonic RX-DT-680 (or any in this series, they sound great)
Panasonic RX-DT75 and RX-DT707 Cobra's
JVC Kabooms, all models
Hitachi ASW models, they are the post 3DO models with third chamber woofer.

There are some others but I can't think of them right now.

Ive been on the lookout for a Panasonic RX-DT501 (i think thats it), its the only egg i like and more so the 4 front speakers do it for me. Also its allegedly really loud with great sound quality, this may explain why they've held there money so well.

Ive often wondered if any 90's tech will be worth big money in like 10 or 20 years.

This is the only 90's box I own. Sony CFD-755. Pretty good sound. I usually leave these 90's boxes alone but, I couldn't beat the $12 price tag for all the options it has.

Adam, those CFD's are pretty nice boxes and they are "B I G".
Some of the CFD's in that line are 745, 755, 765, 770 (I think). :hmmm:
The CFD-770 has some of that crappy rubber coating like the early Kabooms that goes bad.

Around $10 is what I paid for the ones I have and I agree with THAFUZZ, at those prices they are excellent.

My only 90's box is a Panasonic RX-DT707 Cobra, amazing sound if you can live with the looks, looks a bit out place in this shot. I bought it because it was only £12 at a carboot.

I think the 707 and 909 cobras, spanks "almost" all 80s boxes in Sound Stage and Sound Quality... ...even with our small speakers and ugly (for some peoples) look.

Cheers...

I'm not a big fan of the '90s boxes, but I just got a free JVC PC-XC11 c. 1998 and I'm surprises at the sound quality. Not a great bass box, but still nice. The design leaves a lot to be desired and why black became the official color of '90s electronics I'll never know. If anyone knows of a lead to a parts donor for a handle, aerial, and cd unit, I'd appreciate the help.
