All my Sansui receivers have wooden cabinets. Several of my Kenwoods have beautiful looking cabinets. My pioneer has a really neat looking wooden cabinet. My Marantz 2500 receivers have wood cabinets in 2 flavors.

BUT. None of my gear sits in an egg crate like the project being conceived here by the old man. It's downright un-natural....

Amen brother...

Not sure what the end result would be...maybe get Ramoncheetos to assist with gutting the 707 and making the new case work out to fit the internals and function... :hmmm:

Especially since it appears the poor speakers will be muffled out if the egg simply rests in the crate. :-/

good possibility oldy -- :hmmm:

except ..
pleased to say you may be wring about
' the poor speakers getting muffed out '

as the enclosure was being filled in -
the 707 still sounded exactly the same -

and it filled that huge shop with glorious surrounds

but-agree -
not sure what will happen when the roof is on and the
crate it tight ?? :hmmm:

the first try -
will be maroon//black//chrome

it wont be some gorgeous showpiece........
no matter what the color is -
so the plan is to make it sort of dark, cool and subtle :-)

Nice try ira, i wouldnt carry the box like that though, to much weight the 707 handle is prone to giving way as it's happened to me before :-/

I think the whole point was to simply hide the ugly egg when stationary with a not as ugly egg crate :w00t:  . I don't believe the egg was fastened in any way so it couldn't really be carried except if Ira plans to fabricate an egg crate handle.

Nice idea. I believe a better result could've been obtained by fabricating the project with acrylic sheet.

future plans --
include hand slots on each side panel - :hmmm:

agree with tim -
the factory handle does not feel strong enough for the 707 --
even without the crate

btw -
preliminary testing indicates that the sound is more interesting
with the enclosure  :-D

I am curious about the sound as well, but asking Marc Anthony, Cleopatra sounded much better!

Seriously, I would expect the bass to "boom" a little more but the spaciousness of the mids and highs, say sitting off center, there has to be some big time compromise? :hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm:
