I can take a good picture, I just won a photography contest with one of my rodeo ones.
The 5700, ummm where do I start, sound quality isn't terrible, I wouldn't call it great either, it just doesn't have a distinctive sound like some nationals do have, it's a very neutral sound, slightly warm but not really noticeably so. Mildly hi-fi, but not punchy at high volume at all. In fact to my mind pumping the volume exposes the sound flaws, it's much nicer sounding at half volume.
It's a looker, one of the prettiest boxes ever made, I am biased to woodgrain though.
to sum up, not the best National you can buy. I'd say look at the 7000 for better sound.
Edit: waits for Rick to chime in.
Thanks NormSuperduper said:It's a really good box but never released here in the US. Japan is a really harsh environment for boomboxes and metal corrodes badly
there. Most boomboxes have deeply oxidized/corroded controls. Not just the invisible corrossion you see in our boxes. But the thick green cruddy stuff. If those aren't properly cleaned off, the box will sound crappy.
I would say, it's built like a tank -- super heavy -- moreso than the RX-7000 although like Terry said, I would give the nod re bass to the RX-7000. Overall, I like this model and it's really purdy. If you can afford one -- get it. Mine sounds really good.

Solos sound bloody amazing.
Rock On,
If it sounds as good or better than the TPR-950, then I would say it's a top-tier box.Gluecifer said:HERE COME THA CHIME!
I'd put the sound personality in the upper echelon of mid to late 70s portables. And by this I mean very good mids and highs. The bass chokes and farts about with more modern music, but classic 70s rock sounds stellar on the 5700. It's like a TPR-950 with a bit more grunt. I really thought mine may have needed re-capping or something when I first got her, but time has definitely changed that. It's horses for courses with most radios, but this model will give you great sound if tit was released in her day.
.
i often wonder how many opinions of certain models are based on experience with a box that is not in proper working order?Superduper said:It's a really good box but never released here in the US.
