There are a lot of nice boomboxes out there but some look better than they sound and some sound better than they look..so my question to you all is:

What is in your opinion your best looking box and which of your boxes has the best sound and why do yo feel so?

I will kick off with:

My best sounding box at the moment is the telefunken c100..a firm bass and a lot of high..

My best looking box is the Philips Elephant 8714..i like the futuristic design for the time it was made

Ira!

You'd rather look at a Bombeat 40 than a DiscoLite??

I don't like superlatives.

But my best looking boxes are all the projects I finished working on. :-D

Anyway... :-D

Here, in my mind anyway are my best looking, the Sausui CP-7's:

And my best sounding (and a very good looker with ridiculous power), the Sharp GX-300H:

After listening to it, Bobby ranked it higher than the vaunted Telefunken Hi-Fi Studio 1 which I had on hand for comparison. The response was "I am Fatdog, and I approve of this powerful box's message!"

rick -- when the d-lite is running -
there is NOTHING even close to how great it looks

but --at rest --the big chrome all over the tosh 40 makes it the winner !!!

So... My best looking and sounding boombox is my M70, because I only own two boomboxes and my other one is a great looking Realistic I bought as the Mystery boombox from gb4life.

But if I'm sure if I had a big collection, I would rate the discolite the highest in looks.

My experience with the SHARP boxes is that the sound isnt spectaculair and most of them have little bass(and thats what i like in a box!). How do you all think about that? BTW Thnx for your input Guys!, i have bought myself a few new boxes which i will try to photograph when i am home again from vacation.

p.s. I like that Telefunken and the JVC on the pics, they are really good and solid looking.

Dude its hard to say which one of mine is best looker. Probably should put here a few (Crown 950L, Sharp 9595, Bombeat16). Best sounding..... Thats always subjective. One are better for techno, another for old disco, some like laptop speakers and all around performers... But im happy whit the bass of my Sharps. if i should put just one in any position :hmmm: probably my favorite looker is Crown 950L and best all around sounding box should be Intersound SJ - nothing to do whit build quality but have huge separation for one piece box (im just into one piecers) and is good to using it for listen music and watching movies on laptop (sorta can feel which side the train is coming from , and can use the 10 band equalizer to fit the moment needs for sound ). And whit his huge leds its a looker in the dark  . So its a really hard question for me. But i love the bass on most of my Sharps. Strange you are not satisfied whit yours :hmmm: .

Shane, the BomBeat 40's been at the top of my neeeds list for the last 3 years, I'm well aware of it's visual beauty!

But,.. the DiscoLite when operating fully, is a sight of wonder to behold that can't be matched visually.

So, if I wanted to get pedantic about 'the best looking' (not custom!) radio I'd base it on:

Best Looking Not Turned On: I'll go with the BomBeat 40 too.

Best Looking Idling: Toshiba S-90. The subtle green-glow of the back light combined with the gorgeous design is truly beautiful.

Best Looking Running: Vela DiscoLite. Nothing comes close to the overall looks combined with the light show.

Now, best sounding, I have a two way tie: JVC M90 and Sanyo BigBen. Can't split them.

yea for me its all about sound and yes MY M90 THAT IS AT ARRONS HOUSE is a sound above the others i have heard
i will agree the light show is great but imagine that light show on a M90 with a green glow and your paint job now that would win hands down every time
it would set the bench mark

Hard to say which ones really are the best, but two that I like a lot come to mind:

For sound, the Sears 2199...

And, for looks, the Toshiba SX-1000...
