I Am Legend
agree totally with MB --

to each of us ---
$3000 has a different importance,
and likewise - a NIB mighty M90 will have very different values

for me --i might sell the NIB m90--- :pimp:
buy a few m90 beaters --

and spend the $2000 balance at the mustang range-- :w00t:
( always a smart choice in family values )

open it - use it - love it :super:

I find it interesting how many on this site find the value of a boombox more important than the enjoyment of it. I do this for the enjoyment alone. This hobby is far from an investment for me.

Melly I think you might be missing the point from those of us who made that statement to sell it. For me it was to take the assumed number of $3000 then buy one of the minty ones that pop up at less than half that price once in a while, the extra money could be used to buy several more grails or whatever and you would still enjoy a minty cool M90. For some here $3000 is nothing, just a tiny amount of our net worth but for others $3000 could be a years savings so you really have to understand the perspective. I would love to have so much money that $3000 meant literally nothing then I wouldn't care and I'd keep the NIB M90 and love the hell out of it for exactly what you describe, in fact I'd spend whatever it took to buy all of the NIB's that occasionally come up. Unfortunately I like many of us live at a level where $3000 is a large chunk of change and I have to respect that until the day $3000 is nearly meaningless to my existence.

Now for anybody reading this including you Melly :smooch: I respect whatever anyone would do after all it's their choice. I may not personally agree but I do respect the freedom of choice, even if someone wanted to take it straight to the dumps and throw it away although I reserve the right to call you nuts or even sick. :-)

...trust me I understand that some who would sell would do so for more grail purchases, I definitely get that... :-D . I appreciate all input because that is what keeps these topics interesting. Just so you know sometimes I play devils advocate on purpose just to get more feedback on a subject or to get people to open up... :-D

Man-I dream about stuff like this!
Well this is what I would do-I'd get in my car and drive down to Florida for a mandatory meet & let everyone share in the experience of opening it up!
In fact I would make a party out of it! A M-90 opening party!!

Good topic-I would wait for a while & very carefully & surgically open it up! :-) :-D :w00t: :-P  :surf:  :choco: :breakdance: :breakdance:

A box still in the package is useless. Besides, the interior components can actually suffer from disuse, specifically rubber components. Honestly, I would trade or sell it for my personal 5 JVC grails in decent shape -- but man to have an NIB M90 just for a moment...

Lots of assumptions here... but since we're talking about a flea market find, I expect that the price would also be really low.... As long as we are talking about an original JVC M90 box, the cardboard alone has value. So, even if you end up with a box full of rocks you can't go wrong buying it. Worst case scenario, you end up with a box of rocks. But that M90 box will increase the resale value of mine, if I ever decide to sell it.

If the flea market price is relatively low, and the box and tape "looks" original, I'd leave it sealed. Luckily, i already have a fully working M90 in B to B+ condition so I know how they sound. It would actually be pretty easy for me to resist the temptation to open the box.

The first thing I'd do is post a thread here to share my good fortune with you cats and make you all gren with envy! I'd also seek out a someone able and willing to x-ray the box for me so I could not only verify it's contents, but also provide proof thereof.

Then, it would go on eBay, still in the sealed box. And maybe a month or two later you'd be hearing about my great vacation to Europe, where I went to see my brother and pick up a Telefunken M1, and how I scored a Nakamichi Dragon, and maybe even a WX-1.

Shame on you John you didn't even bother to call me and tell me you picked up a Telefunken M1. :annoyed: :-)
