Yeah Readers Digest didn't make their own radios, that's for sure

I doubt it's Philips though, since it was made in Taiwan. Probably some no-name manufacturer.

Yes, Reli, should be really rare, an interesting 3-piecer,
I am just wondering why Reader's Digest needed such a thing?

Was it a sort of usual practice for such magazines?
I also tend to think that this radio was OEM made by one of numerous
Taiwan electronics manufacturers.

Many thanks for sharing!

Interesting box for sure.

I would have to think, with all the hype and money being generated by the boombox fad back in the day, that everyone wanted in.

I bet Readers Digest sold that through the magazine right next to the Franklin Mint and other advertising items they sold.

But think of the age group that would have been subscribers to RD. I bet not that many were sold!

Yeah Readers Digest was one of those things your grandmother gave you a subscription to for Xmas

You might be right (although Sanyo called it AMSS, not AMS)

Gosh I was expecting to click on this and laugh at some terrible little plastic piece of junk but that's actually a very nice looking rig, Cannot believe Readers Digest had that, I imagine it was part of their bookclub deal, get a boombox with signing on for book of the month plus magazine for a year, Maybe? Or a prize!

VERY distant!
I have that model too (Hitachi TRK-9900), and it is a true hi-fi unit, with tight bass and clear treble. Much heavier and more powerful too.
