Thanks alot everyone.
I do have a KABOOM...... well 3 of them. I have the ever popular Gray with Black end cap version, I have the new White Mp3 version and I have a super rare translucent Blue with clear ends. I have only seen 1 other Blue one on E-bay but it was a VICTOR jap model and mine says JVC. So I suppose that its rare.
I Started with a small GE back in the early 80's as a kid but have loved portable radios as long as I can remember. I also have a G.E. model 3-5259A or commonly know as Blockbuster ? But it has what seems to be a power supply problem. I just received a service manual for it, ORIGINAL, so I will be trying to figure out what in the world I can do if anything to correct this problem. At least I have the service manual so if I have to take it to a shop I will rest assured they are not going to be HACKING at it.
My last portable is a MINT Panasonic RX-DT680 I scored at a warehouse auction. It is a 3 piece but seems sturdy and is just the cleanest box I have ever seen in my life. Looks like it is straight from the factory with a Platinum Collection sticker still on the cassette door. Sounds superb for a 3 piece, I was impressed by the bass response and the high end. I may trade it off or put up on E-bay and allow a true collector to enjoy it. It looks too clean and for that reason I am afraid to even use it. Is that dumb ?
I notice alot of controversy over the Kabooms, but I too agree with most, that they are lacking crisp highs and a quality tuner. But the Bass is so impressive that I just have to forget the other short commings and enjoy the deep sound. I can USE a Kaboom and feel OK with it, but if I had a real classic like the 777z or M90, I couldn't enjoy it. I would always be afraid of it falling or getting dings.
OK, I have used up all the forum space here so again I say thank you for the welcome wagon and talk to you soon. I know I am sort of new to all of this but I really think these vintage radio sites and museums are top notch and so informative.
Thanks, Greg
