If the Chinese were willing to make a repo GF-777, who here would honestly want an 'exact' replica that sounds just like the original?

And what Chinese investor would throw big money into making quality twin tape decks when most people (even collectors) would rarely use them?

Maybe the Chinese could make a copy of the outer casing but include extremely efficient modern D class amps and decent quality speakers to enable the 'repo' 777 to sound good.

Ditch the 10 D cells setup for a removeable Lithium Polymer rechargable battery!

I have a different theory about how all these sharps made it to china...2 of my gf's came from china and they were both made in japan ..I remember 30 years ago when you were able to by reconditioned electronics here in ny at a cheaper price than brand new in box.So I think boxes that had problems were returned to stores and sent back to the manufacturer ....radio sent back to china for repair and rebox and sell as reconditioned

It's old topic but I'd give some pieces of information.

Not like most of you thought, all the boxes that being sold from China those day are just recently imported from Japanese. Not many people in Japanese know that their old/unused household stuffs still worth some bucks outside of their country, and there're millions of secondhand products like cassette player, air-conditioner, refridge etc. are being thrown out as trash every day. Those things, then be gathered and exported to countries like Cambodia, China ... and then be sold to collectors.
