Don't mean to taunt ya, but I have one ( decks don't work, but CD and radio work fine, and in decent shape ) I would let you have for the paltry sum I got it for about a month ago, however, shipping from me (WInnipeg, Canada) is ridiculous @ around $125 CDN or say roughly $100 USD packed compfortably. Canada Post is killing us up here for sending anything outside our borders.

Panasonic RX DS-650 or 660
Better looking, one less tape deck to go wrong and a proper line-in.

^ Definitely better looking, but aren't those tweeters actually just bass ports in disguise?

The 660 definately looks better than the 680. It is a lower model than the 680 though. It's missing a couple of amps too - only 11 watts RMS versus 15 watts (11 + 4) RMS per channel on the 680.

Had an RX-DT model a few years back. Made a big mistake letting it go, too. :bang:

Are any of the ones being mentioned/recommended bi-amped? Can't tell from the pics. That's what makes that XBS really shine, imho. :stereo:

For instance, RX-DT680/690; RX-CT980/990 are bi-amped, yep!

4.4PDS and 4.6PDS

AFAIK, Panny Platinum Collection 4.4PDS & 4.6PDS series comprise
11 models as well as 9 regional modifications.

As per service manual those are 2 cm tweeters.
They lied, those "tweeters" are just whizzer cones built into the woofers. A member took them apart and discovered that the tweeter grills are empty holes.

Philips told the same lie with its D8714 elephant box, saying "7 inch woofers and 2 inch tweeters". But a whizzer cone is not a real tweeter IMO.

Agree, Reli, but if get caught they may say - you got us wrong, bud, we meant only a physical whizzer diameter,
the size of the whole damn piezo thing behind grill.

OK, the term "Whizzer" is new to me.... :dunce:
Really? If you google whizzer cone, it's there.

You've seen them. It's an extra ring of paper that goes where the dust-cap normally goes. It looks like a paper megaphone. Its purpose is to vibrate and produce higher frequencies than the speaker would normally produce.

I never new it's name.

Yep, those are lame.

I always wondered if those did anything at all.
