i remember that exact hitachi from back in the 80's - my uncle had one & boy do they pump out a great sound - i remember doing a sound off with my rx-f35 and it was no contest - but the rx didnt disgrace itself that much.

we had a holiday shack out on some islands off the WA coast & our boat had some wooden brackets to hold that hitachi down for when the going got rough - fun times.

its actually still one of the few stereos i would like in my collection, it impressed me that much.

A high school friend of mine had that Hitachi model back in the mid 80s. He let me carry it one time and I remember how heavy it was for it's size. It had a good sound and seemed packed with features.

Yeah these are heavy and do sound pretty good, I have the 9150 and 9140.

Frickin love mine - well made and solid - sound great and has a great feel - heavy

notice no wires when speakers are hooked up to the unit but still plays sound ! the metal tap/hooks surply the power to run them - cool - you can use the wire/cable if you want to separate them

mine is near mint and i got it from a carboot for £15

Wow! Great pics. Those take me back to when we used to listen to that box. Wasn't the prettiest but sturdy looking and def. up to the task.

Exact 10.0 kilos whit one tape inside (just comig from the scale ). Love it. Was tellin all around how good is this monster. And is lot underestimated . I would put it in my top 10 for sure. It is insane how low bass this small woofers are producing . And thats back in the 80.

Is that with batteries or without?

If it's without, that's pretty impressive. It doesn't look very heavy in the photographs.
