I Am Legend
after several years of closet duty --
i put my hitachi #9140 into rotation today :-)

its about the same size as an m70 ---
4 pounds heavier --with alot better bass output

the only reason it was not up with the 'daily grails'.......
is that --having spent too much time lugging around some heavy
GENUINE :-D military radios
(back in the day)

i never liked any of these psuedo 'army look' designs--  :-O

but THIS one --even with its goofy army handle etc etc -
is such a strong sounding box --
that now i like it anyway

its part of a look-alike series --#9150 and some others

anybody here have these ??
like them ???

Funny you mention the good bass output as I have always heard that they sounded kinda hollow. :-)

Interesting Ira, I passed up a few of these simply because I didn't think they would sound very strong.

cant blame you guys for not bidding --
they do appear often on ebay --but they look like toys-
so -
you would expect them to sound like toys -

WRONG !!! :-D

i used to have one of these, when i first seen it i was a bit hmmm..bit of a head scratcher,i was neither hear or there..
But then.... i switched it on and hurd the sound,i can safely say that they sound alot different than they look, there heavy, chunky, solid, and they sound loud and nice, plenty of bass..dont let the looks fool you..

well i kinda like the way those pretend serious piece of military equipment radios look. i mean i guess thats the way they marketed stuff back then.
better than making things that look like spaceships and are egg shapped or imac shaped i guess.
your right tho ira they are kind of silly but i think they are cool.

In Swedish boombox is called bergsprängare, which translates to rock blaster. Supposedly the name comes from the heavy bass output that goes loud enough to blast rocks! :ymca:
But from what I've heard the name is also thought to come from the resemblance of a detonator used for blasting rocks in mines. The weird rounded handle on this box does kind of look like a explosives detonator, so I don't know for sure but I think this is the box that gave boomboxes its name in Swedish. When mentioning "rock blasters" this is also the box most swedes think of, kind of THE box and it is definitely one of the most well represented boxes in Sweden!

Anyway awesome rock blaster ira!
