It seems like a lot of people rush into the blood sport of boombox collecting these days :ninja: . From my personal experience I've seen quite a few newbie collectors over pay for a box just for instant gratification. So my question is this: What's the most you ever paid for a boombox? And in hindsight are you still happy with how it turned out?

Mine: I bought a JVC M-90 off of Ebay for $700., I would have been happy with the deal except it wasn't working when I got it and was not as the seller described. I ended up returning it. I did get my money back so it wasn't all bad. What about you?

JVC RC-M90.. $1,100, shipped from NY to the West coast. 100% professionally serviced and inspected twice. Fully working. No regrets. Here it is, getting picked up from being serviced. This Technician, was an Authorized JVC Service Tech in the 1980s, and repaired them back in the day. M90 and Tech.jpg

$670 for an M90 about 7 yrs ago.Got lucky on that 1. Now I have doubled that price on a sexy looking item that will sit on the dresser in the new ranch house that we'll hopefully have by the fall. Hopefully I can get a clean nice Toshiba WX1 next for around $500

£447.91 on My much-missed Hacker SP80, as sold on to a friend so that I could buy a replacement car in 1994.

In my defence it was a hand built, point to point wired box from the UK's best ever wholly independent maker that would have cost a whopping 800 Guineas (a fraction over £761.90) when it was new in the mid '70s and one that showed any JVC or B&O product up for the toy that they were by comparison with its massive oval woofer at each end of the cabinet and its clever porting arrangements.
I've since been in the bidding for a few that have been on eBay but none has yet become mine.

$375.00 for a M-70C Fully Working and $375.00 for a mint PC-55C.
But the highest was a brand new JVC PC-55JW for $599.00 in 1985'.

Most by far was £250 ($420) for a great condition fully working Sanyo MX920K from a trusted techie forum member who was within pickup distance. Maximum after this has been just £70 ($115) with most being well below this...I like bargains!!! :-)

$700 for an M90. It was 100% operational with nice looking chrome but paint was faded. I painted it and now it looks flawless. Definitely no regrets. I think the amount someone is willing to pay depends on their budget. I would have happily paid twice that amount for an M90 because it was a box I felt was impossible for me to get when I first saw them in 81. So an icon like that has immeasurable value to me. I love this hobby, so when I really want a boombox the price doesn't matter as long as the condition is acceptible to me.

The highest amount I have paid for a box that I still have and plant to keep is $475 on a jvc m75. I've spent more than double that for another box, but it has been sold off. Most of everything I currently have in my collection were under $200 including 2 M90's.

$350. It's a tie between a C-100F and VZ-2000..
I won't spend over $500 for any box, unless its a NIB M90 for $501.

I paid about $1000 for my Clairtone 7980 BUT that did include shipping to the UK from Canada AND import vat.

I was a bit greener and a lot more impatient back then and I don't think I would throw down that much again on a box.
But, at least once a day I wish I hadn't traded it :'-(
