It was summer 1984, I went for a walk with my Technics SAC-05L, I set off from home with a selection of my favourite Zappa tunes playing and managed about 300 Yards before a fresh set of Duracells reached that point at which they could no longer keep up with the beast's demands for current.
Oh how the neighbours loved hearing about Bobby Brown's exploits.
:nonono:
Same music, different boomer, about 5 years earlier. GF-9090 around Northern Italy...and yes, Bobby Brown did go down!

Back in the 80s I used to schlep my Sanyo C-2 on the bus to dad's place for the weekend - about 30 miles or so. That and the three miles by car to and from the beach in the town across the river from us.

I used to carry my PC-550 with batteries to the ball diamond in my teens. It was about 1/4 of a K away.

Now I have a hunchback and one arm longer than the other

I said I was going to set the record and today I am!

I will be taking the Toshiba RT S84. It's relatively light weight, it has the Blu_Fuz strap and I have loaded it with my light weight rechargeable batteries!

I will check in later today with pictures and a map of the distance walked!

 Can't wait. Loved watching your camera mounted videos of L.A. (especially the *ss shots  ) and the funny reactions you got.

Looking for tyre tracks in these pictures ;-) .... Not seeing them. Wow! Well done man, that effort deserves a large measure of your favourite spirit-based refreshment. :-D

Nope, no tire tracks....that was all legs! The first mile is a real ball buster, after that....it was fairly flat.

Looking at those pictures you can see how absolutely out of place that radio seems. No street signs, sidewalks, bus benches and high rise buildings. All the things that are associated with the BOOMBOX!

If a Ghettoblaster Blasts in the forest and not in the Ghetto, does it make a sound? It does if it has fresh batteries!

The "Blaster Vision" you speak of is going to be revived in a FANTASTIC way. Although I will not be involved in the actual production, I have given the thumbs up for the idea to be used. More details about that will come in 2014. I promise, it will be AWESOME!

Not too far from what the South Bronx in the 80s looked like... and what vast tracts of Detroit look like today...

I'll often take go out after work on a route that's 2.8 miles. Other outings to the local park and the waterfront/downdown have probably run closer to 4-5 miles.
