So I have a complete working RX-6400. I am finding information here and there as far as value but I can't get a definite answer. Anyone know what its worth? I've had it for quite a while. It is complete, only missing the knob dress up pieces on two knobs. Oh and the antenna is broke at the base. Thought about fixing it but I figured if I sold it, someone that has way more knowledge than me might do a better job.

Reaper, here's the thing, just coming in and asking questions about values of boxes sometimes is frowned upon here, as it seems you're not really interested in being a part of the forum but just selling your stuff and getting out of here. We're a forum for boombox enthusiasts, we're not here to value your stuff so you can make a fast profit. I mean we can and someone might help you, but I'm trying to tell you these kind of posts are usually not answered. Why should we help you price your RX-6400 when you're probably just going to turn around sell it and never come back ? We're not a resource for ebay dealers and if you want some help we expect some contribution too. If you're actually interested in boxes, make a post in the introduction section etc. If you just wanna sell you stuff good luck, I don't know much about the RX-6400, but if it's fully working it could be worth some money.

Peace

We need to make a canned response that we can copy paste in for this type post.

I dunno. Personally I think $12 is a little high. Saw an Rx-6400 at goodwill the other day for $10. Mint even. I couldn't do it. Just not worth that much. You guys must have deeper pockets.

I'm not so sure you'd be able to sell it due to lack of takers. What is sought after by many an enthusiast is a Matching Pair that'll lend balance to an otherwise 'offset' display. I mean, on a good day with the right people taking a keen interest, a Matching Pair of RX-6400's may even fetch the princely sum of, say......$15.00 as long as there's no buyer's premium, includes a full set of rechargeable batteries and free delivery. On a good day, mind you.

I guess I just assumed it came with the owners manual and box and was only used by a little old lady to listen to the morning gospel on Sundays..

the part i hate is why don't you just say how much you want for the god damned thing? , why is there this testing and feeling out period before you can say the words i want to sell a ****ing box!. decide on a damn price you can live with and sell it . if you miss out on the few extra dollars you thought you might get so ****ing what , if you don't know **** about it now you aren't losing much in the long run . the only reason these boxes cost what they do is from every seller it goes through has to either .
1. take a loss
2.make a profit
3. break even.

and after the 50 people it goes through in it's life time it'll end up costing way more than it's worth.add in the shipping it around the globe 17 times the damn box cost pennies compared top all the trips around the world.

Like I said I don't know if I want to sell it yet, I've had it for a long time. It has sentimental value. The only reasons I considered selling it is 1) I don't use it anymore and instead of it sitting in the closet for another 20 years, I thought maybe someone else would enjoy it. 2) IF I sold it, I would use the funds to buy my wife a record player console to refinish and upgrade. I have a few other old boxes but I don't want to get rid of those. I kind of envision my daughters using them in their college dorms or something like that.

I had no idea there was this large of a following for old boxes. If I got a little bit more friendly response, I would have no problem posting pictures of my small collection. Maybe even talking about the good old days when I used them.

I understand where everyone is coming from but not everyone that comes here is an "ebay dealer looking to make a profit". I more or less was hoping for someone to say its only worth a couple hundred bucks. That way I can't justify selling it.

its cool man , i would love to see you use it more . i think the problem is if your first post is about selling something then it raises red flags . if you really love these old radio's we would love to see what you have. i think you have a good chance of selling it when people know you a little better . also have a better chance of enjoying it if you decide to keep it.

I assume you're being funny, considering the profit you could get by re-selling it.

I remember seeing them go for over $400 in excellent shape, but that was back a few years ago when they were still considered rare, and when there weren't as many semi-retired guys trolling their local garage sales and posting everything they buy on Ebay.

I don't know if $400 would even buy it. I'm sure my wife wouldn't have a problem with it though... I had thought in the back of my head that if it was worth at least $500ish, I would bite the bullet and sell it. But after getting it out and setting it up and plugging it in.... I don't know if $500 would even make me do it.

Yeah I'd have to imagine you wouldn't get more than 250 for it, considering the missing parts. If it works, sounds good, and brings back memories, then keep it, it's one of the best garage/patio/deck systems.
