Over the years there have been many many threads on here regarding new radio's as they appear (and disappear) in the marketplace.

So I want to know, WHAT WOULD YOU REALLY PAY IF....

(Please forgive me as I am not an expert on modern boomboxes, just giving some examples)

Kaboom's hit the market in the 90's (IMHO) as the first attempt to "Improve" the sound quality of the boombox, but for many, the design was unapealing.

Lasonic re-entered the market a few years back as an "Entry Level Pricing" radio, although most agreed it was a classic design, they didn't like the quality (Keep your hater shiat attitude in check or I will delete your posts! :annoyed: )

The TDK quickly followed as a sleek modern design but was ripe with electronics problems. This was a very expensive radio, up words of $750 for the top tier model.

The Pioneer Steez and a Sharp tubes have also followed with a lackluster welcoming and classic design short falls.

Most recently, the Diamond Box. A modern take, all aluminum bluetooth "Box". If you read the thread, it comes with mixed reviews and a hefty price tag of $1,000.

So, if you had the money to spend and a radio hit the marketplace that satisfied your Minds Eye, incorporating the EYE POPPING classic design with cutting edge components and sound performance, how much would you pay?

Please vote at the top.

If you don't use the USB port of the TDK (I never use this port), you won't have any problems. You could static shock the knob and the LED will blow out :dunce:, but other than that I would rate this the #1 new-school grail but with a price point of $500 or less.

Oh, and remember you CAN NOT leave batteries in it over night because they will die hahahahhahaha

I actually only use the USB port on my TDK 3 speaker and have had zero issues...AND i use it a lot...in the summer by the pool it's what i use most, and i let it run often for 5-6 hours straight in the heat  ...the sound is so nice :-D

If jvc reissued a exact copy of the m90 I'd consider 500 dollars but it'd have to be bang on.
That diamond box actually has a lot of models for less than a thousand bucks. Check out their instagram. It also comes in a lot of colors other than green lol.
The steez line was really killed by its operating system and horrible sound on its smaller models. Just a terriBle product.

Fantasy features for me would be . Ability to play all waveform data, USB sd slots. Wifi streaming . Oddly I wouldn't care if there was no tape deck but, it should have a high quality radio with shortwave.

Other fantasy features. 1/4 inch balanced inputs. Built in recording with condenser mics . Effects.

With todays manufacturing policy of 'make it work until the end of the warranty period), I wouldn't trust paying big $$$s.

Chances are, if by some miracle JVC reissued an M90, it would be junky inside so no go for me.

I didn't vote as my choice of 'I wouldn't pay anything' wasn't available (I'm not an 8 track user!) :-)

Nothing. I would willing to pay thousands bucks for one old box, but will not pay even a buck for a exactly- the - same one. I am collecting boxes because they're OLD.

0 for me, thanks.

Any mass produced boombox would use throw away parts by design. I doubt any manufacturer has the raw material, ethics, and design team left to make a quality boombox like the 1970s models, which were designed to last 50+ years. Even if they did, few of us could afford to buy them. Look at high end audio gear as an example of what it takes to buy a modern, real product.

Even if they get it all correct, and it produces the perfect sound, it will be shaped like an egg!

And last but not least, they seldom make products UV resistant. If you leave your new 2500$ boombox in the hot sun...

Actually your not alone. I really enjoy design that's modern if it's good. When it comes to blasters old or new it's all good . I am no luddite

Cripes! I just looked at the prices of TDK 3-speaker, $800+!!
I always wanted to stuff the TDK system into a Magnavox D8443, but that $1000 wouldn't be worth it IMO..
Classic look with modern components..

So it looks like the consensus is NO BIG MONEY on a modern radio.

From the perspective of what it cost to buy some models of the vintage stuff NEW back in the day, 777, M90, VZ...these were BIG bucks, $800+ this is $1900+ today. But you got what you paid for.

And hearing what you guys said made total sense. I too don't trust modern ANYTHING. Everything is designed as a throw away, which is really sad. Companies build right to the lowest level with materials, labor costs and life expectancy to no fault of the people who put these things together on an assembly line wherever that may be.

To all the people that have bought a modern box, only to be let down, My hat is off to you. At least you tried.

Yet, I still hold out hope that there will be a worthy box coming out one day!
