I was in my mid-30's (not a kid!) when the boombox golden era hit and I bought my first two.

Boombox #1 was was this National Panasonic RX-5010F, bought at a flea market in Janesville, Wisconsin...

Still have it... box, directions and all.

A couple weeks later, I returned to Wisconsin (I was living in Chicago), and bought this Quasar 3612 twin at American TV & Appliance in Madison...

Still have it, too.

Me and my brother had a Grundig CR 485.
Not really a boombox but a portable casette recorder.
Aww, beautiful DrmZ. My brother had that Grundig & I had a Philips AR073 radio cassette the same Christmas - both our first "boomboxes".
My first stereo boomer was the Philips D8132. Sorry - don't have a pic at work - this link should take you to a pic: search.php?keywords=D8132&submit=Search

If you haven't already done it (& haven't kept 'em all), I can heartily recommend tracking down all the boomers that you've owned across the years. It brings all the memories back... :-)

Sadly I can't remember my first box, it wasn't a well known brand that I know of but I haven't seen it again. It was a small/midsized double tape deck with equaliser and I think but aren't 100% sure that it had the speaker grills to the front and top. It was bought in the UK around 83 or 84 I think.
The one I do remember from around 86, 87 was the JVC PC77 which I have upstairs in an original box though not the original one I had back then. I think I bought it from a fair or something for about £20.

My first Stereo BBX was a Sony CFS 45L. I had a nice mono before that I traded towards the stereo, but I can't remember the brand and still haven't found a pic that jogs my memory. Here's a pic of someone else's Sony:

The Pioneer SK-303

Got it xmas 1984, with MJ's Thriller on cassette.

Nice machine, not really 'classic' looking but nice warm bassy Pioneer sound and an exemplary tuner.

Only 'Tone', no dolby, no tape selector, did have music search, gel-edged speaker cones.

My first box was a Saisho. It died an ugly death when the handle on it snapped.

My second box was a Hitachi TRK 3D30E (Christmas present, Dec '93)

...I still have my 3D30 !
