I am really ashamed to say, I have gotten lazy. When I joined BBXY I was hell bent for leather to restore my radios!

At the beginning I was doing some rebelting, some worked, some I farked up!

Then I got into blue toothing and I have just let things slide :-/

Recently I picked up a fully working QT93 and it just reminded me how convenient it is to simply press play. ;-)

So I walked into "THE BLAST CHAMBER" to try to access the damage. How many of my radio's have working decks?

I don't even remember! I need to go, blaster to blaster and re-access!

So where does your collection stand? And do you care?

Out of my fifty some radios only around 15 work lol I'm just too scared to open them up, I don't want to do more bad then good

Hey Chris, you're the new King of new threads!! Keep it up!

Around half of my boxes have 100% working decks. :-O

Some of my other boxes have decks that FFWD, RRWD and play but sound crap. So unless all functions are working including record and they sound nice - (better than their FM stereo sound quality), I classify them as having non working decks. (Because a deck that doesn't sound nice won't get any use)!!

James..... :-)

Ive gone with 40% but to be honest that might be being generous. My collection is so spread out atm while im moving things around at home that its getting difficult to keep track of what I own let alone what works.

That being said, I don't use tape much, a good line in is much better for me :-)

I actually use line in most of the time but I still love my radios to be fully functioning and always without fail attempt a repair if its not working. Occasionally I can't fix it tho. At least 80% to 90% of my decks work and it annoys me that it's not 100% lol :-)

I have a relatively small collection, but all the decks work. I also have a few parts units, but they live in the eaves, so they don't count. I'm pretty sure I've serviced every one before considering it part of the family.

I voted 100% because the only one I had whose deck didn't work was the Hitachi 8080E and I gave that away to be harvested for parts. This means that Simon's collection would be 100% working if I hadn't lumbered him with that POS! :-P

I like the sound of a good analogue source, mp3 or other formats that employ lossy compression just don't sound as real though in spite of that, I do enjoy having over 5,000 tunes on one device and that it can be connected via my LineX (FM microtransmitter) to lots of radios at the same time. ;-)

Way to go, Dave. If everybody gives broken stuff to Si, he'll soon be down to 20% and we'll all reach 100%! :w00t:

I'm at 70% but only really bother with the important ones. I usually have my tekkie do the re belting & motors as I'm too impatient, cack-handed and stupid to do them!

He charges £40- 60 for that job for me which isn't bad for a good box but hardly worth it for a regular one.

I have about fifty boomers, all cassette decks work 99.0% !

The only cassette deck not working is my JVC M90.
And yes, I have replaced all fused resistors. :bang:

I'm between about 30 and 40% at best. The problems I have are a lack of available belt sources, a lack of information regarding what belts you need for what models, and the ridiculous price of belts online. If it was easier to obtain the belts I need, I'd get on with fixing them.

I voted 40%. Some thing I want to learn is how to properly do re-belting and adjustment. I keep meaning to do it, but have been lazy.

Ha ha I don't count that 8080 as I'm taking the battery cover door and the deck door clips then binning the rest...tho I'll offer up any parts first.

As for bringing the broken decks to me...I reckon I could cope with that lol...you wouldn't get em back once I've fixed them tho :-)

I don't even know (I have no idea how many radios I have actually), definitely not more than 40%. As much as I would love em all to work, I can't be arsed learning how to sort them out. One day I'll get there, one day...

around 70% here. I try to rebelt and de-goo when I get a new box. Also, I stay with the piano key or mid-lower end boxes with simpler decks mainly (ok...I'm cheap).

Look at me... my vote put me in the majority... for now... I put 30%. my M70 works right, the three Lasonics work so-so... and since the 931's have two decks... eh... not sure how to count that... Going with 30%
