JVC classics are hard to beat for best build and sound if we are talking old school. M70/M90. Also the big Panasonics like RX5350.

What are you looking for?

Depends how "large" is "large"

In the "extra large" category, Conion C100 is the best quality IMHO

But if you mean something smaller, then I would say the Panasonic RX7200 or Sanyo MX820.

Even has a bloody lock on it!! Works in a similar way to the motion sensors on some other portable stereos....

For highest quality I'd throw the JVC M70/ M90 or the PC series at the top, but would certainly not discount the Sony FH series build quality either

I overlook my C100 way too much and didn't even mention it?!?!? Yes, the C100 for an old boombox is very loud, has street cred, and actually doesn't sound too bad.
