Well...
You hav to look at it with some brevity. The real truth is that the FH-7 ain't going anywhere without the power pack. That would make the FH-5 Sony's true top dog portable as any Walgreen's can supply it power. The FH-7 will need AC one way or the other.
Not having the Rotel, I cannot say just how good it is, but based on it's stats, I'll toss it in. So, for me, the best combination of AC/DC, Power, and Sound would be:
1. Sharp GX-300H
2. Telefunken Hifi Studio 1/1M
3. Rotel RPM-10
4. Sony FH-5
5. Pioneer CK-5/5F
6. Sansui CP-7
7. JVC PC-55
8. Sanyo C-9
9. Sharp WF-939z
10. Panasonic RX-C100
My .02

EggZacTly! BUT it actually is portable with the Battery Adapter. Some folks don't really understand what the battery pack is. It's not an add on accessory. Basically, the FH-7 can be used in 2 flavors -- AC or DC. The bottom module is all transformer on the FH-7. It's a monster of a transformer too, to match the moster amp chips. The battery module looks eggzactly like the transformer module. Except that instead of a transformer, it has a tray to install 12, count 'em, 12 D cells. Also included inside is a new amplifier module to bypass the larger AC only amplifer modules. The only reason we don't talk about them more is because the battery adapter is so damn rare.

Maybe when AC powered. But for me, drop the Telefunken down to the bottom when on DC. Because it's total crap on 12 volts.

Tim, I have no doubt the M90 is loud...but loud without losing it? By design alone the three you mentioned will out power the M90. (Though the PC-55 is a mystery as to why it's bass shy, how they engineered that after the PC-5 I'll never know...well there is the PC-11)
First off, the M90 consumes far less power than the aforementioned three. (The GX-300H's rated consumption is 120w, I've measured it at 133w which damn near doubles the M90 at 70w. The M90 JW only eats 60w.)
So unless there is some engineering miracle of the past I'm not aware of, or you're referring to your modded M90...I don't see it mathmatecally or have heard it audibly. And I have compared the M90 along with a roomful of others.
I need to hear your M90.
