lack of a rca line in.
i mean considering the prices of these things when new and lets face it they were not cheap all boomboxes should have had a line in.
personally i think it is great mystery how in the hell someone at panasonic got aways with selling the 680 and 690 with no line in.
the kabooms lack of rca inputs. good on them for putting a guitar jack on some of them but hey what about a good line in.

next up
buttons replacing pots and sliders.

foam speaker surrounds.
if you are going to make it that hard to get the freaking grills of the nmad god thing why not use cloth surrounds or butyl.
i mean sure they most likely werent thinking anyone would care in thirty years but ........

how about the antennas just in general.
i mean my old grundig radio has a mofo antenna on it. super designed and lowers down into the radio itsself.
its pretty damn long too.
i mean to me all these boxes have crappy antennas. sure they work but they all are flimsy as hell and cheap as hell too.

DIN sockets, especially when they're only wired for output. Also having to press play or play/rec to monitor a line-in

Automatic record level that sets far too low a level.

Easily lost switch tips.

Self destructing chrome/silver finish eg; Sharp GF 'pitting' problem.

:-O :nonono:

Why you hate monos Rimmer? :-/
once I had a mono (see left) that for fifteen years made many "miles" in a working, (maybe) more of all your stereos together, and never was stopped or broken. So I think that earlier monos was build with more quality/sustainable than many of later stereos
But.... that's is your filing
My filing is I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE MONOS :smooch:

I hate : when something is missing e.g. antenna, knob, cassette door, or anything else

I hate print-ons and stickers with exaggerated wattage and unhonest HIFI logos.
I hate also missing or worthless tuning meters.

Don´t worry, tony!
Your mono is king!

And the fact is , there exist some worse monos AND stereos.
Bad quality sucks.

Also: missing parts :-/

I'm pretty tolerant of most things, but like Bill pointed out, when a box doesn't have a line-in that really gets under my skin, too. Now if the tape deck works that makes it somewhat bearable... Even worse though, is when there's a line-in and you have to hit RECORD to monitor it... I'm 100% with 2steppa on that one.

I hate broken tape deck belts. Having that deck there is such a tease if you can't use it..

And I also hate that JVC put chrome surrounds around the M70 speakers, but they are just for show and you can't get to the speakers by removing them... ARRRRGGGH!

This is a great post. Mine are:

- Agree 100% about the line in thing. Anyone with a Mag D8443 knows what I mean. With the size of the thing and all the unused real estate on the sides and back, you would think...

- I hate the absence of either VU meters, or at the very least, LED indicators showing the sound levels.

- This is pretty universal (I think), and I mentioned this on another post: HATE how tape volume is lower than radio. That kills me...

- And no offense here, not trying to make enemies, but I, well hate is maybe a bit strong, I do not prefer three piece boomboxes. Kind of like the classic single piece items. Just the old school in me, I guess.

- This one is just a personal thing - somewhat related to above. I also prefer handles that go all the way across, not the short ones mounted in the middle. Especially for a large single piece like a GF 777, it would seem like a full size handle would make it a bit easier to carry (though someone could argue that the small handle makes for optimal balance while carrying...)

YES - I very opiniated for owning only one boom box! :-)
