The Sharp GF-8989II-With Luther Vandross "Never To Much" & Frankie Smith "Children Of Tomorrow"
This is so totally special to me as I had one of these brand new and was playing these tapes on my original and of course it was bought in 1981' and both of these cassettes are 1981'.
My replacement from E-bay is really nice with very little wear-sounds great! These are special stereos and are very loud!!
What a great year-I graduated that year.
The Sharp is brilliant and clear and sounds just super with cassette!
Have a great weekend-GB. :-) :surf: :choco: :stereo: :cat: :dj:

GB, you've inspired me to pull out my favorite of the 8989's - the brown HB - and fire it up for some music while I relax in the recliner. A beautiful looking and wonderful sounding unit (the consummate boombox in every respect). Enjoying a little country music right now on 106.7 FM, The Fox. http://www.1067thedrive.com/main.html

For this weekend, I'm listening to oldies radio on the Toshiba BomBeat SX-1000. I thought it was just a dark grey version of the WX-1, but now that I'm looking at the controls on hemiguy's WX-1, I can see that these two boxes are very different... even though the overall design is the same. Makes for an interesting comparison, I think!

Going to work.I'm taking the RX-DT680 and running my Ipod.using the CD-line out trick. I'm hoping that treble boost on the Ipod will help give an extra edge to the highs and it will still sound good.We shall see :hmmm:

I use the "treble booster" EQ setting whenever I hook up an iPod to a box... It makes a BIG difference to my ears.

Haven't put the Philips D8134 away yet, so went for a real memory-lane job:
Magnum's 1986 offering: Vigilante
2d9bvw1.jpg

One rare time I was laid-up ill for the week was way back in 1986 - I had proper flu (none of that man-flu cr4p when it's just a bad cold, I had the GP out on a house-call, the lot).
Anyway, I'd not long got this Philips boomer new & this album was just out. A mate lent me the musicassette & I listened to it over & over.
Recreating this wasn't so easy - the D8134 has no line-in & I never had my own copy of it on cassette (I have the CD & it's on my iPod). So I had to dust off the Digisette, persuade the battery in it to hold some charge, & transfer some mp3s.

For such a cheap boomer this sounds great :-)

Magnum: the best-ever melodic, anthemic rock group that never made it in the USA. Soaring melodies and wonderful harmonies. Good choice!
