Give me the 9494x, over the 9696 anytime. The x model, has the nice white woofers. The only downside to these models, is, the rubber idler, on the capstan. Good news is, it can be replaced.

Your talking the idler tire that feeds tape or the one on capstan that drives other tire??

The one, that drives the idler bill. They tend to turn to mush. It`s amazing, how something so small, can render a box unusable (cassette).

Hey thanks... You ain't kidding about that...I did change it. Luckily the one there hadn't changed to mush yet, but it was soft and would have if I didn't change it. At least I didn't have to clean all that mushy black crap it usually leaves behind..I've worked on a few Sharp decks like this. They are pretty simple :-)

Im surprised you rate this over the 9191 - I thought the opposite

The 9191 has better clarity and fidelity

So much so - I sold my 9494 and kept my 9191

Although this is all subjective - as my 9494 might have been tired - or my 9191 may be exceptional
and likewise your examples may be the opposite

What did you use? Some sort of plastic tubing. I used that, on a 9595.

I used small rubber fuel tubing for RC cars. It fits perfect. I just cut a small piece and scuff it up with sandpaper. I purchased a couple feet for $2, so I can do lots of Sharps :-)

Yeah my 9191 had no bass hardly. Plus the function switch and stereo switch always gave me problems. Probably needed to be taken apart to clean and possibly repair. I loved the looks but like the 9494 looks even better :-)

One other thing I hate about these Sharps is the posts strip very easily. 5 posts on my 9191 were stripped and 6 on the 9494 were stripped. Nothing a little JB weld can't fix ;-)
