Congrats! Looks like a good clean will make a huge difference

Find the vz strip down instructions on here and it's pretty easy and well worth the effort. Spent about 16 hours working on mine to get it all clean and running properly but now it's used all the time and I love it! :-D

Looking forward to seeing the cleaned up version :-D
Simon, what is that yellow LP you have in your VZ-2000? :hmmm: It looks cool !
Well it is an 80's disc but sadly it's some crappy soundtrack from a movie called Lemon Popsicle...looks cool tho and only cost me 50p :-D

Hi Simon, can you put up a pic of the cassette tray. When I open mine it looks like only half of it comes up and the other half is still down. It doesn't look right to me. :hmmm:

well after further inspection it looks like the bottom cassette tray has 2 pins on the left and right sides that have broken off and will have to be repaired. But guess what guys, everything works, cassette, radio, turntable. LOL!!

Those broken pins can be easily fixed. Drill a hole where the pins were broken off and insert an Al pin with the same diameter of the hole and glue it. I used a little bit of 2K epoxy when I inserted the pin. I used the same broken pin and made a hole to tightly fit the pin there. I had to make adjustments for the slightly shorther length of it.

Sounds like you've sorted it already

And congrats on getting a fully functioning one!...the turntable belt is always melted so its amazing to get a working one

A Royce, can you or someone tell me if the pins just extend to the top cassette cover and just ride in the slots or do they extend further to the fixed/stationary holes on each side of the cassette tray? :hmmm:

From what I remember they extend to the slot. They don't extend more than 5 to 6 mm outward. Let me see if I can take a picture of it without opening up the unit.

They stay in the slot serve as a hinge.

Pardon me! Without opening up the box it was pretty hard to get a good view of the pin that serve as the hinges. Please see the pic

Chris already answered about the color difference. Those pins will break if one forgets to open up the unit without leaving the cassette door open. So always remember that after you fix it. I had to open up the unit several times because one way or other I ran into problems. Also be careful with the top PC board of the turn table. Two places of the board along one side are held to a V cut metal slot that can break the board if not careful. There is a small switch near the stylus advance motor also very fragile. This switch is next to the pulley holding the cable reel. :-D

Yeh as the others said this one came with red speakers and whilst I've repainted every other Sharp speaker I've had, to bring the colour back, these red ones are untouched and like new (and booming as I type  )

For sure the contrast of the yellow record and red speakers look great! The VZ is such a sweet looking radio and a MEGA BEAST! :w00t:

Hey Bro,

Great Score man. That tear down list makes taking these apart so easy. The red speakers and blue cassette tray is just a different model. Some had black speakers, some had red. There are lots of threads on repairs....here is one on how to get scratches out of the plastics: http://www.boomboxery.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=15501&hilit=+vz

BTW, do not polish the top panel, it will take the printing off

Good luck with your rebuild.

Thanks for the link.
BTW, great youtube video of the TRC 935 vs TRC 975. I have both and I just like the TRC 935 much more. More features and lighted EQ, come on, does one need to say more. LOL!!
