I nearly had 4 but i had to tax my car  the wires im sure route to the external switch on the back of the unit then to the back of the radio unit, there are a lot of sockets at the back.....but if you have tried the speakers in another unit, it must be something electronic that wrong. Could you not swop the rear of the poor condition unit for the faulty one?

or swop the radio unit carrier and all the wiring over.

I'm running it with the X front and the XA back at the moment, but only until I can work out what's wrong with the X.

2 reasons for that - The main reason is that the X has black speakers and black trim and the XA has the red speakers and blue trim - the tape players, record players, etc are all different colours. Also, the X doesn't really have a mark on it - apart from a light graze on the front cover - but the back of the XA is a scratched and not 'near mint'. I've just got to isolate the problem.

You said you have a VZ2000Xa (ac 110,127,220,240)
I assume you checked that you didn't by mistake switch it to the wrong voltage selection.

cant you just swop the components from the XA to the X....its quite easy. at least then you would have the X running with a decent case.

Voltage was always on 240 - I never changed that.

Still fixing an issue with the XA - Left channel isn't working.

On the X, now the tweeters work on both channels but not the bass speakers - I cannot work out why.

On the unit with no woofer operation check if IC 402 is getting hot (just touch the heat sink). According to the Schematic I have the tweeters use one stereo chip and the woofers the other. Woofer output is also routed through the Speaker selection Switch and the headphone jack , either of which can stop the signal.
Try headphones and the ext speaker connection point.
