I drove to Des Moines yesterday to sell some car parts, along the way stopping at thrifts & antique stores..
Stopped at a unique store in Ames that had some interesting stuff.. After making a quick walkaround, I asked the lady behind the counter if she had any boombox radios?
She said "I think I might, lets check"
We walked back to what seemed like a supply closet loaded with a bunch of stuff, she said "maybe you can grab it out of there, you are stronger"
There were a lot of things piled in front of it, so all I could see was the corner of the black cabinet and the handle sticking up..
I figured it was gonna be a cheap 90's box with CD player or something, but as soon as I grabbed that handle I knew it wasn't a flimsy POS.. This sucker has some weight!
I asked her for an outlet to plug it into for testing, powered it up, messed with the switches for about half a minute, then took it to the counter to pay..
The tape deck door was sitting crooked, but she got it back into place.. Tag said Great radio $15 I told her it would FFWD but not play, so she sold it to me for 10 bucks!
As soon as I got home I tried it out in the shop, she gets pretty loud! Good sound.. threw a tape in and started testing the deck again.. Found out the reason it wouldn't play was the PAUSE button was depressed..
This unit isn't really beat up, just dirrrrty! I have it disassembled now for cleaning..
THe original owner engraved just about everything, speaker cabinets and all the component casings have numbers engraved next to purchaser's name..
