Unitech CX-1430 - Opinions?

So.... I have an opportunity locally to pick up a Unitech CX-1430 with original box & papers... supposedly it works 100%. For reference, this thing is as big as a JVC M90 and has 8" woofers. No clue about sound and such.

Does anyone here have one, and what do you guys think about this box?

Yea, if I were going to buy on looks alone (or if the price were cheap enough) I would be all over this thing without hesitation... I'm hoping that someone sees this thread who's actually heard one of these can compare the sound quality at "normal" listening volume to a benchmark box that many of us are familiar with... Maybe compare to M70, M90, Sanyo M9990, Panasonic 5xxx sereies, or Sharp GF-9x9x box...

To go get this box would take a good 4 hr chunk of my time and a good $30-$40 worth of gas... I want to make sure its really worth the effort and expense.

That's an AKA of the Goldstar TSR-800 & Prosonic 9962. They are good boxes with a decent deck. The build quality is middle of the road, not a JVC or SHARP, but the sound is good & the looks are killer so I would go for it, as long as everything works as it should...

Supposedly the bass is near-M90 amounts......but I've never heard one to verify that.

As for looks, I've seen too many of them on the Bay recently, so I'm not feeling them at the moment.

In any case, I've seen AKA's sell for as high as $400-500, so you'd be insane not to go pick it up.

thats about right -
its hard to make the sound comparo to other boxes --it has ' its own ' type output -
but - i predict you will like it ..and be glad you snagged it-- TODAY !!!

Oh, concerning comparison with more common / well-known boxes. The performance is closer to the M90 than to the M70. Build quality is better than the Lasonic 931's.

I have the Goldstar aka of this, I would grab it on its looks alone. The sound on mine is strong but not "really good" imo, but like a Lasonic it does kind of have a sound of its own.

It looks great from a head-on view. But from a diagonal view, those mesh grills block the view of the speakers.

Deal secured.... Was able to organize taking the day off tomorrow, so I am picking this beast up tomorrow afternoon.

Seller told me it's NEVER had batteries in it and if he were not more into 8-track tapes he'd be keeping it. I told him to consider the box sold, and that I'd pay his asking price without any haggling BS, as long as it works as promised. I also told him, that I'd kick in a sealed Ampex 90 min. blank 8-track tape in with the cash...

After talking for a bit, he told me he's genuinely relieved this box is going to a good home... Win-win!

More to come on this over the weekend.

This is the first new box acquisition for me in over 2 years.... Feeling strangely..... AWESOME right now at the thought of picking this up tomorrow!!!!!
