Isn't that the one with the fake tweeters? Someone took a 920 apart and discovered it had fake tweeters. I forgot who it was. Mine are real, and put out tons of sound.

The 920T has fake tweeters and from what I understand, only the 2nd half of production. The first half of the production run had them. The 920 all had them, unless someone removed them over the years for some reason

Also, there are 2 run's of the TRC-920, 1983-84.

1983 had the heavy grill material w/black speakers and the 1984 had a fine mesh grill w/white speakers (not my pictures)

Looks like I have an 83 then.....I love the grills on it, they're smooth and thick

Perforated metal vs. Mesh.. Same as Japan C-100 vs. Korean..
Interesting. I prefer the 83 because it's basically bulletproof, where as the 922 mess when damaged is very obvious even from a far

Yep, mesh sucks IMO, because it's not flat, it's multi-dimensional, and that causes it to obscure your view of the speakers from an angle. You can only see them from a head-on view. That's why I got rid of my Sanyo MX-650.

I wondered about the speakers, I'd seen a few with white, it made me wonder if mine were painted then, but I have the thick mesh, big holes. So I guess it's right!

AND, for the most part, you can't repair it. A dent is one thing, but if there is a "Drag" mark across the face your FARKED! :-O

The thick mesh can be pounded out with a hammer and repainted.

Not sure about the 1984 920, but the 922 is a light blue color, looks sexy as hell, but again, hard to repair and match

Yep, it looks fantastic! :-D The general layout is very similar to the Sanyo M9990.
Of the 3, the 918 is always the most affordable but it packs some thumbing bass, considering the size of the speakers. And like the 920, it's built like a tank.

IMHO, these are the best Lasonic's in terms of build quality (I have never owned a 931, so I will leave that out of my opinion)

Sadly, my 918 is TOAST, so I want to look for another one with short wave. It's a display model :-/
