I was out of town for a bit, but yes I'm the one who bought this box. Just picked it up from the USPS today. I was a little scared when I saw the packaging as it looked fairly small to me, and thought it might've just been the boombox bare in cardboard, and no 'fragile' stickers, crazy caution tape like that other guy just posted, etc. And to top if off the cardboard box had some ripped corners and fairly rough on its own. And the kicker even the way the guy at the post office set it on the counter pretty hard had me worried. Can just imagine that the cardboard was roughed up by the USPS en route. But..... luckily after taken a lot of pics for documentation I opened it and things got nothing but better. It actually has 2 cardboard boxes layered, no padding between them but the inner one wasn't affected like the other. Then inside that was styro around every edge like a factory box might've been. And, it was double layered in a plastic garbage bag so the radio was keep clean and I didn't get any styrofoam in the grills like I've seen before.
So then I fired it up. Sounds great to me and it's actually as good as the pictures looked on ebay. There literally isn't a hairline scratch on the top, sides or back. Bottom looks cleaner than most tops/sides I see. I don't even feel like I need to run the baby wipe over it, but I'm sure I will just for a little added shine up. It does have the great Lasonic plastic discoloration on the side input/headphone panel, and some very minor lines on the back. What the hell is that anyways, and how does Lasonic seem like the only ones that have it? Anyways, other than that, it's very very nice cosmetically. Tape plays great but RW/FF aren't working. Not sure if it's a belt thing or not, more on that later but at least I know it plays great and the head is good. Aux input and radio sounds great and this box is quite loud. There's a light switch that says on, off or 'push on' and that doesn't seem to be working. Assume that it's the tuner light, I might look into that if I decide to open it as of course it's fairly minor to me. Assume it's the light burnt out, or a lovely lasonic switch issue. At least the function and band knobs are working all good as I know how iffy they are with my 931 model.
All in all, very happy with it as I rarely can find a nice model in such good cosmetic shape. I should be able to get the minor things in the FF/RW and light fixed if I want to open it up. Maybe do a fresh coat of paint over that input panel. Anyone know a specific spray paint/color for that Lasonic gray? I have a 918 that could use a fresh coat on the back while I'm at it.
