Let me break your original statement in half...
So what kind of music do they listen to
in the Orient

That's played-out terminology, despite what it says at Wikipedia...

Who are you? Bob Hope? You need to get with the times, dude.

But anyway, since I'm the only Japanese music listener here,

yeah, they listen to and participate in making music

in all of those genres... and then some.

Ric, you forgot X Japan!

But to answer your question Bill, they listen to either Traditional Japanese music (if you heard it you would know it!!). But mostly they listen to Pop, Hip Hop, Dance, Rave, Techno, Rock and Metal. Haven't heard any Japanese version of Country yet! They listen to Top 40 stuff

One thing that is very interesting is they do their own version, like Mash Up's of American Pop music, mixing several songs together into one with a Japanese singer singing in English. I guess it's cool when you are beyond the LEGAL grip the USA!

But the wildest thing I have seen and seen allot of it, is that when you go into a store, shopping center or restaurant, they are playing Pop / Hip Hop, Dance music LOUD! Really LOUD! But more then that, they play American music that they clearly have no idea what the singer is saying in English.

EXAMPLE: We pull into the parking lot of a shoes store. They have "Bull Horn" style speakers in the parking lot BLASTING a mix of music. They are playing a Full Blown Heavy Metal track with a shredding guitar solo just burning it up. At the same time there is a second track of Hip Hop / Gangster Rap going and then a third track of a Japanese woman with the highest SHRILL voice you've ever heard yelling in Japanese. When we walked in from the parking lot into the store, i was able to here the music better and I realized that the hip hop track was some HARD CORE Gangster Rap and the rapper is using the "N Word" REPEATEDLY!

As I looked around, there were Japanese women shopping for there kids, (3, 9, 15 years old??). No one is batting an eye! They clearly don't know what is being said!

After a few minutes, I couldn't take it. It was so loud and mixed up with the SHRILL of the womans voice cutting into me like a buzz saw that I had to leave. I get out to the parking lot and it's pumping out these TINNY bull horns! I had to get in the car and crank up MY stereo to get away from!

Again, I have seen allot of this....WILD!

While we're on the topic, some of theeeeeeee very best collections of hip hop music on Vinyl are owned by Japanese collectors. For real.
We're all way off topic but, let's be honest, we're all still thinking about that dope as hell Toshiba at the start of the thread

I've also got one of those...

That box was only made in Japan for the Japanese market...

That said, unless you can read Japanese, a users manual will be almost of no use to you.
