OK, I know that's I'm going some what against the grain here, and you have FAR more experience with these then I do....BUT...I have a nice little Panasonic that only has a tone knob and not bass / treble controls and it sounds GREAT!

Between the tone knob and the stereo / wide controls I can get some really good sound out of this little guy. I use it all the time.

NICE! Well, if you ever open her up, take a snap shot of the belt lay out for me. Mine came with the belts melted and I don't know how they go in there! :-/

Here's three mighty mites who can get by with just tone control:

Realistic SCR - 18

Hitachi TRK - 6400W

And, Aiwa CS - 200

They all sound pretty sweet for only having a tone control, but they more than make up for it. The Hitachi and the Aiwa, for instance, both have line-in. So, I guess good sound comes in all kinds of packages. :hmmm:

Sorry about the poor lighting for the pictures. The lighting down in my Utility Muffin Research Kitchen isn't the best...

Boomus Fidelis
The best sounding box I've ever heard with just tone control is the Aiwa CS600.
It kinda cheats though with the DSL circuit.........  :stereo:
