Hello to everybody.
I missed the opportunity to buy the Sharp GF-9191, but I would like to start my collection with a good boombox.
Low budget €. 250,00 / 300,00.
The Boombox would like it with the following features:

- Grey
- Classic look
- Great sound
- Analog VU meters
- Medium size. Not too big, not too small.

Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks

P.S.
I'm sorry for my bad english

That's not a low budget, you can get something pretty good for that. Why not go M70?
The JVC RC-M70 is a boombox that I like so much, but the price seen on Ebay is higher than €. 300.00 and are not 100% working.
I don't know other websites where I can buy.
My only one reference is Ebay.
Do you know other websites, please?

Thanks

Depends on the country, each has different websites

I'm from Italy, but I have not problem to pay shipping from other country to Italy.
The important thing is that shipping cost is cheaper than the price of the boombox. :)

I found three sellers in Italy.

Sharp GF-9494 (13w)
- Full Working (with new belts).
- External condition: Very Good
- Price: €. 165,00

Sharp GF-9191
- Full Working (with old belts).
- External condition: Very Good Plus
- Price: €. 180,00

Crown CSC-850L
- Full Working (with old belts).
- External condition: Very Good
- Missing Shoulder Belt
- Price: €. 260,00

What do you think about these?

Well I bought a 9494 for £18, a 9191 for £46, and an 850 for £60. So all the prices are high but I did a lot of waiting for the right one and took chances on whether they worked or not. All 3 were in good nick and all work fully after a service. So it depends whether you want to pay a premium for a mint working one right now or play the waiting game I guess :-)

I agree that those prices are high.

Patience is a virtue when it comes to buying BB's, play the waiting game and you'll save yourself some money. Pay higher prices now and other sellers will raise their prices as they'll think the BB's will always sell at a higher price - therefore you're helping to keep prices high by paying such a high price in the first place.

Patience, my dear, patience.

I think it's too hard find a boombox for a low price in Italy.
It's true, around the world the prices are lowest, but if you have to add the shipping cost to Italy, you will always spend a lot of money for the item.
Why in this forum there is not a section for buying and selling?

I've seen many BB's at good prices in Italy but find the postage costs to UK are so high that the BB is not worth buying because of the postage charges.

Same thing, when I find BB from abroad and the shipping charges to Italy are high.

For you, which is the best of three (Sharp GF-9494 (13w) / Sharp GF-9191 / Crown CSC-850L)?

I'm not an expert.

Crown CSC-850L - If you can find a nice one, buy it! Easy to repair & service, a good one to learn from & amaze your friends with :-) I love these things!

What's its value?

Value is different for each person

For example, Americans would pay more for a Crown 850 than Germans would, because it is rare in the US but common in Germany.

Also, UK people tend to get better deals than anyone else. I don't know why. Maybe they go to a lot of boot sales. Prices on Ebay UK are lower than Ebay Germany or US.

A Crown 850 in very nice condition, and fully working, would get 175-250 eur on Ebay Germany. More on Ebay US. But if it's beat up, and not fully working, I have seen them go for as low as 40€

The price for the GF-9191 is OK if it's in very nice condition.....but they are such common radios. You could easily find one for less.

I think you should buy the GF-9494. It does not sound as good as the Crown, but it is the best looking, in my opinion. And it is more rare than the other two. 165 eur is a good price if it's in nice condition. If he put it on Ebay it would sell for more....up to 250 eur.

Also, the "13W" badge means nothing. It is NOT less powerful than the one with the "22W" badge. They both have the same amplifier chips.

In summary:
Crown 850 = best sounding, but it is not built as well as the Sharps (in my opinion).
Sharp 9494 is bigger than the 9191, and it is more rare.
If you don't buy the 9494, I might be interested in it, but I would need to see photos.
