Damn dude , you should never leave electronics in a hot car

So, we are given lower quality items as consumers these days, and our response is to blame any problems on ourselves.

The Chinese must be laughing at us.

This reminds me of an apartment I was once in. Everything was bought from the cheapest material. Towels would fall to the floor not because you missed the rack, but because the entire rack came down. Cabinets were bent horizonally..they couldnt take the weight of the groceries.

Boomboxes are designed to be portable, which means they should be able to survive a FULL day on the beach, with no problem. If your Lasonic is under warranty, take the whole thing back. Tell them you need something that will last for a walk in the park, in the sun. In short, you need a real product.

As for never leaving electronics in the car, are you suggesting you take your car radio out every time you leave it? No, of course not.
It is all about quality.

It's 100 % truth. Everything you buy these days is made in China. That's why we have to take good care of the 25 -30 year old gear.
I bought Senheisser earphones one day . They lasted ONE day. Yep 8 hours . German brand made in China. What's the word comming to???

before we bag out lasonic just ask for replacements
then if there is no luck then talk about the second stage
i can not see lasonic not replacing these as then shorely understand we love there lasonic brand and i think they will like to keep it that way
send them a link to this forum and they mite help
i guess you mite pay some postage
and yes we get 45 deg days all summer in Perth my sharps always survive so i guess it quality
it would be a piss off as this is a modern boombo :breakdance: x that we want to use our ipods in and this happens

I had my Lasonic I-931x out in the sun (not in a trunk and not 160 degrees) for a good 15 to 20 minutes when it started to melt.
Bottom line is, these are not and never were the greatest quality boxes.
No offense to anyone who owns a Lasonic (I have two and love them to bits)
You should be able to have your boombox out in the sun with out having to worry about if its
going to melt. :breakdance:

"if our boomers were designed to withstand 160+ degree heat consistenly, we'd never be able to afford them."

True, and we couldn't afford most of our collections, if we had to pay retail, even 80s retail. Part of that expense was the testing they did on the materials (UV resistance, etc) and the quality components. I could not afford a National RX-7200 at todays price's, for instance. 145000yen is about 1806$, not including 30 years of inflation.

So, we have collections of high-quality audio components, which are not comparable to today's models..

"Bottom line, exercise caution. "
Right. :-)

Andre! Just had an idea!
Post the pix on Lasonic's Facebook page and see if you can score some free replacements stickers off them.

They probably won't like this sort of the thing out in the public domain and will want to remedy it.

Rock On.

Really good idea...i post it on lasonics fanpage ;-)

Good luck Andre. Fingers crossed you are goin to have some help from Lasonic.
Its getting pretty hot here. Now (11,30 AM) 25C (77 F) on the shadow and will get really hot later. I have one indoor car thermometer . Will put at least 2 cheapos in direct sunlight into the car. And well see. I am very curious about all that stuff :hmmm: . Will take pictures whit the temperature too.

Who here thinks the next post will be along the lines of: "Someone broke into my car & stole those boomers. Police are looking for someone with burn-marks on their hands" :-)

Seriously, most electronics manuals have the all encompassing caveat of: "never expose the unit to mosture or direct sunlight/heat".
That said, they seem a genuinely nice bunch at Lasonic, so it's worth giving them a bell. This model is still in production, so if you offer to cover shipping, I reckon they might replace the warped plastics for you. Can't hurt to ask.

Soooo. Not saying im going to leave my boxes in the car when is real warm... But its not Andre fault. The two boxes are now home without a trace of melted parts. All trims and all is like before. So is the i931 plastic fault. Sorry to say that. But 6 hours in direct sunlight (32 C on a shadow the whole day) in the car (the thermometer in car is till 60C and was way after 60 more like 72-73C about 161 F if the imaginary scale after is same size is like the normal :hmmm: ). And yes the boxes survived.
Yea and the car was in my own yard  .
Its a bad idea of course but i was so curios.....

But The decals are what melted and curled up as they would on any bbx that had them :hmmm: So I dont believe this experiment was fair unless using an old bbx like a helix black box or a crown black boomer with decals  just my opinion ;-)

The bombeat have a decal on the top of the tape buttons - the symbols for "play" and so on... its a decal (yea its metal but i was waiting to fall down, not such thing happend) . I agree its not a black box :-P . Im not trying to make all scientific  . I was just really curious about all that :-P .
And i dont believe they cant make a little bit better decals. Probably one buck on top of the price :-P .

:agree: 100% whit that. Why our car speakers are not melting :nonono: . Why not distorting..... Its about quality. Any box will survive ( and im pretty sure many survived the same day in cars around Andre's car too.
Shade Andre was is passired mit dich die letzte tage :-/ .
Any car I've been in that was more than 10 years old, had speakers that were distorted or broken somehow. Consider the environmental extremes they face inside a car. Not just the sun, but also temperature, humidity, and vibration.

:agree: Freddie but some of the old boomboxes such the JVC 550, M-90 & m70 has put up with high heat. I should know this back in the 80's I would hang out all day either in the neighborhood park or on a handball court and these babies withstood the heat. I guess it depends which boombox can handle heat and which don't. I will say I never left my boomboxes in a car for a long period of time.

Summer in N.Y.C. was no fun.
