The stores that sold them, where are the ones in your town?

I bought my first walkman at Caldor! I bought one at Service Merchandise too.
My favorite store was Lechmere, where they had aisle after aisle of boom boxes that you could fondle.

LECHMERE

i lived near the original cambridge store --
that had it ALL

huge selection & good prices
All of my lawnmowing money from 1987-1993 was spent at Lechmere. I still get "misty-eyed" when I think of that place.
And the first (maybe even the last) Discolite I ever saw was at The Sharper Image at Fanuel Hall.

I miss Lechmere..... :'-( Never did see the one in Boston, but we had a couple stores in/near the RI area. I remember the Walkman area vividly; there was a circular counter with at least 30 or so models on display. Had them connected to power sources so you could try them out. Fast forward to the late 90's: Circuit City had a Walkman aisle, but I always had to pop my own AA batteries in them to test them out! Lazy lazy.......

I remember when Lechmere had an aisle dedicated to the portable Casio and Yamaha keyboards of the day too.......
