the SPL specs it´s too low and demands some power for good response ranges!!!

Every Watt of power, increase +3dB of SPL.

Try to find superwoofers with

Here's a short, noisy video made with my kodak camera. The sound is s#!+ because of the camera's primitive mic but as you can see those woofers are seeing alot of ttravel & really pumping out a good bass response but the open back of the box cancels anything below about 100Hz/. If you put your head up close to the woofers, the sound is balanced & rich in deep bass but as you walk away from the box, it gets weaker in the low end, maybe 40-100Hz is almost comletely gone from cancellation. I have to out more dead-mat & somehow brace the cabinet to start. Then, I need to isolate the subs & midbass woofers & create some sort of sealed volume behind the sub-drivers. It's ambitious & i'm risking big bucks if I do this. I've alrady got 600 into it.

Even in the video, I could hear the better "fwump" of the woofers.

Thanx fatdog. :-D

Well, from listening tests, etc. I know the Speakers & Amps are doing their job & providing lots of deep bass but the cabinet fails to reinforce the bottom 2 octaves(20-80Hz) because the back is vented hevily & acts like an open speaker baffle. With an open back & paper cones, it's no wonder that GF-777 sounds more like a guitar amp instead of a stereo HI-FI. With the new 'super' woofers, I can crank up the bass amps & it stays pretty clean for bass & ahve lots of travel without distorting. If I seal the back, I'm not sure of the result. The way those woofers move, they can create alot of compression the box may rattle apart if not damped properly. I'm giong to give it a try in a temprary way before going for it. If the make shift version has potential, I'll commit to the mod. I'll know if I wasted 2 hours in about 2-1/2. :'-(

I like the progress in here!

Maybe you could try putting duct tape on the inside of the back case to "seal" it off to see if you like the sound from having the vents blocked off :hmmm: . If you like it then put the dynamat in there, if you don't like it then pull the tape off.

I too am scared to start modifying my 777H for the simple fact that it's sooooo nice as it is. BUT, like you said, it lacks sound in so many different ways.

Maybe some day I will have the bawlz to change up the speakers...... Nice job :surf:

Thanx Blu_Fuz for the kudos & suggestions...Am working on the outer woofer replacements right now...will post pics soon...The real BIG snag I ran into is the magnets of the replacement woofers for the outer mid/bass drivers are way too big to fit as the transformer for the box takes up too much room...I'm working on removing the transformer from the circiut board & relocating it on the side of the box. Wish me luck. This is where it could go wrong & my beautiful 777 becomes a parts box.....hope not. =) I'll know more where I'm at in a few hours.

UPDATE: ALL SOUNDS GOOD!!! The new ESS Woofers are a great match to the Infinity Tweeters & car audio subwoofers. They came from a center channel Speaker 'kit' that included 2x 4-OHM ESS Mid-Bass woofers, 1 Cerwin Vega 8-OHM horn, & a 2600Hz/2-way Cross-over @ 8-OHM->Woofer/Tweeter laod. I'm stilI using the soundstream passive crossovers for the mid-bass & tweeter drivers. It's 3KHz @ 4-OHM/Woofer/Tweeter which is perfect for the 4-OHM drivers that most of the big blasters used in the early 80's. I am absolutely convinced that SHARP was way ahead of the pack for the tech that is built into this behemoth. Did you Blaster-Masters know that the center woofers are actually running on an actively controlled band-pass crossover? The next psot is a short video of some old-school beats that were made for these boxes...stay tuned.

This was taken with my basic Kodak 10-meg camera with video capture. Needless to say the quality of the video is low but I hope it conveys the difference in sound from the old paper cones. I'm starting to love my GF & it sounds good. I have to list the mods I ahd to acomplish to squeeze these monster ESS baskets in the corner sockets. The ESS woofers are stamped with a good design & the magnets are HUGE!! More pics coming soon:

EDIT: I have to add that the center woofers are really banging so I know the amps can supply the juice under hard loads & are behaving reasonably well except when you get down to 30-50hz range, where cancellation occurs because of the open baffle/vented rear cabinet design. The sound stays pretty clean at high volumes but I need to isolate the center subs from the outer midbass. I'm thinking of a foam woofer 'cup' maybe 4" deep. They use them for car audio to isolate the car woofers from panels so the car doesn't vibrate from the back-pressure of the woofer. Also, the woofer itself is more controlled because of even compression of the air inside the 'cup'. I want to try it & wonder if anyone else has. Isolating the inner woofers from the midbass will also keep the back pressure of the super woofers from affecting the outer woofers & clean up the mid-bass too, a bit.

Hey Goodman, check this out. It's a video of my ghetto blaster playing the link you posted for a techno BASS song.

Please note the position of the Super-BASS controls at the 11:00 position on the dials:
TECHNO-HOUSE BASS

Here's another track to show you some bounce. The controls are still in the same places & no settings but volume are touched. If you can see it, the woofers are really hopping & please remember if you can hear any box rattles or noises at all. It sounds pretty good for a plastic box & the soundsatge is pretty balanced too.
HEAVY HAMMER!! WARNING!!! Turn your speakers down before playing. HEAVY BASS ENERGY 40-80Hz

The bass is not clear on my camera & that sucks B^++S but you get the idea. This thing has TONS of punch almost exactly the way you would expect a ghetto-blaster to sound, only MUCH more powerful, when 4 drivers couple in the mid-bass region & the subs really kick near the sub-sonic at 30-50Hz, to reinforce the bottom octaves, say 40-160Hz region. It isn't perfect, but it's damn fine D-CELL AUDIO & sounds pretty balanced, overall. The horns hold up with the new tweeters & the sound isn't muddy, tinny or monolithic at all.

Thaxn Goodman. It should sound even better when I get more deadmat in & dampen the rear panel. The only drawback to my project is that my ghetto-balseter weighs aout 50lbs or so....I might weigh it tonight on my scale to see how heavy it really is. :afro:
