...are there any ipods, etc or new gadgets
that can copy off the radio ??

Yes there is in abundance. A majority of the newer mp3 players have FM tuners built into them now that can record to the internal drive. My daughter liked mine so much she stopped using her iPod (w/o tuner) and just used my mp3 player with the FM. After she wore mine out I got her one for Christmas similar to mine. Guess who got the old one back? :-/

thats cool
thanks freddie :-)

do i get one more question ? :hmmm: :angelic:
(as you might can tell --not to hip re this new stuff)

ok - after the fm song is copied into the ipod -
is there an output from the ipod

ie line out - or even phone jack out -
so the song can be recorded to tape ??

You would just use the headphone output for most or get the line out converter cable for Zune or iPod. :-)

well i see a few of you disagree with the lack of a cassette deck.. nothin personal.. but cassettes are seriously old school.. same with CD's.. MP3's or other digital compression is definitely the way to go.. mainly for the amount you can store on such a small space.. i'm not dissin cassettes.. but they had there time on the planet.. i mean i can store thousands of songs on my IPOD touch.. play them randomly.. and it's instant.. no rewind/FF.. no hiss.. just pure digital goodness.. nothin against cassettes.. but lets face it.. it's a dead format.. in my eyes anyways.. please no flaming :-D

i am totally ok without it having a tape deck or anything new having a tape deck.
i think that ipods are great for the portability aspect but if i actually want the best sound mp3s or tapes will never be my first choice.
you are right tho if you want to take your music with you ipods are the best bet.
really mp3s dont hiss. i would absolutely say that many of them do but not in the same way.
if your listening to them on car audio speakers or a boombox you most likely wont notice.
if you are listening to them on a pair of b&W or other higher end home stereo speakers you will for sure.
cd as a mass marketed music medium is probably on its last legs.
however there is nothing that can touch a high density cd being played through a hi end cd player with balanced outs.
i do agree tho that the hard drive based music player is extremely cool for taking your entire music collection in the palm of your hand anywhere any time.

well thanks for not flaming :-D as far as hiss.. i would guess it depends on the quality of the MP3 player.. you could also record at the highest MP3 bitrate and the end result is CD like quality sound.. but that eats up memory space.. and even though most of my songs on my ipod are 128k bit rate.. they sound great to my ears.. i agree with the other member saying the older Kabooms were quite heavy.. and the newer ipod one is smaller and more manageable.. i'm not expecting super duper bass from 5-1/4 inch subs.. but it looks soo good.. and the fact my ipod is fully protected from dust and damage.. it's a no brainer for me.. i mainly bought the ipod touch so i can listen to internet radio.. LAST.FM/Pandora.. big fan of KPOP :-) obviously anything made today wont be made of the highest quality.. so i dont expect that either.. but i'm still very excited about this new kaboom.. hats off to JVC for even thinking about remaking this into a all in one for my expensive ipod.. THANKS JVC!!!!!!

That's great for those that own or will own an ipod but it's far less cool if your not going to go ipod. Glad to see JVC coming to market with something but it's not quite what I was hoping for, I think this will keep prices on the high side for old Kabooms.

:agree:
in fact it might be time to look at selling the one i have that plays tapes and mp3 discs. i mean i dont know why i really need to hang on to it. i bought it brand new and a couple of weeks later found a fully working kaboom in the dumpster. last year i was lucky enough to get a third one that cost me nothing almost unused.
i took the goop off of the ends of mine with borax wich completely prepped them for paint at the same time.
i think i need to weed out the kabooms i got i do like the box but i dont need three of them allthough its fun to let them all play together at the same time.

i like the general idea of the new kaboom allthough i think the way they have designed the usb port is a invitation for woopsies.

When only driving with rental karts, it´s not so expensive. ;-)

But i would never give away the wonderful CONION...

Nope. :-) Gordie is like the mafia up there, he'd put a hit on me. My idea of plenty more is like 5... not 35 :-D
