Thanks guys for all the comments. After a day with this radio I have to say WOW! This is my fist JVC and even though this model was introduced in 1978 and clearly from seeing the electronics inside that it is an older generation, this things sound is premium! It's not a heavy hitter in the bass department but it's clean and clear!
Yes Monolithic, I am VERY happy to see it had the inputs!
I can only assume this radio was pulled out of a closet or from a basement or something because it was just packed with dust and dirt and when I first turned it on it more or less crackled to life.
But since using the radio last night (A story for another thread!) and using it today, things are starting come alive and wake up! The "Stereo / Expand" switch wasn't really working, depending on the position, one speaker might work or one VU meter, but not the dirt is breaking loose and the stitch is working better and both meters are working! YEAH!
Once I get this unit torn down and cleaned, I'm confident everything will work as it should.
mrpeppervolcom: you can get DeOxit at hard ware stores or online here: http://www.caig.com/
Boom Shaka Laka: thanks man, I have always been a tinkerer and was ran an electronics company for 13 years so I guess I got that going for me
Thanks again everyone, some of the best part of getting a new radio is sharing it here!
