so - right after i finish all that complaining...

last night
i GET a surprise visit from my good friend who lives in Arizona (he's a brilliant electrical engineer)

he came over...

I had the 880 out to photograph and...

he dove into it

turns out it was "broken in 220 mode" - he got in there and changed that to 110V

and it sounds.... GRRRRRRRREAT!!!

tape deck didn't work, but all else does - lights, dials (electronic), etc. - and it sounds great.

so...
I'll post pics soon

the numbers are in the thread I linked to, I would just give them to you but they are out in my shed

Well lookey there, you could have smacked me with that link and I would have missed it. :drunk:

Fatdog!

Indeed my friend = he was quick to accept TWO!

I'm just astonished at the timing of it all -
he also explained all the radio bands (what MW means, etc.) - but all i heard was "the teacher in charlie brown" = "whaa whaa wha" while i yearned on the box working

if anyone wants to explain LW, MW, etc to a rookie

I'm all ears

medium wave - a radio wave with a wavelength between 100 and 1000 meters (a frequency between 300 kilohertz and 3000 kilohertz)

long wave

A radio wave with a wavelength in excess of 1000 meters.

I believe MW is the same as AM and LW is a shortwave band
