SONY CFS-99 DEAD

Guys, I need help with My Sony CFS-99. I couldn't get it powered up on batteries or power cord. I opened it up, and looked at the power transformer. It all looked okay, but when I did some research, I noticed other power transformers had a fuse connected between to posts. Mine doesn't look like one had any soldered in originally. If it does need a fuse, what type? Here's a few pics of mine, others for comparison.

Gosh Fuzz,I don't really know as I have not worked on many Sonys.But on my Pannys I have seen the old skool bus type fuses.Maybe look for one of those,I guess.Also I see your transformer is a 100v type.Could it be that the person you got it from fried it by plugging it into our 120v outlet and the damage was done?Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.I wish you good luck in your effort to repair your b.box.

It is missing the 500mA fuse in the primary of the step down transformer.

One end of the fuse to the white wire connection and the other end of the fuse to the primary connection to the transformer. You can see the insulated wire lead soldered to that post.

It doesn't look like the primary is burnt. It is missing the fuse.

The yellow and white are the 120V AC inlet lead wires. White goes through the fuse to the primary connection.

Use a 120 to 100V step down transformer in future. In Chicago we have 129V all the time.

Check it with batteries and see the high voltage didn't do any damages.

That's what My Spidey sense was telling Me. Thank You very much. I'll work on it. P.S., It wouldn't do anything on batteries. Hmmm..

has a sticker .8A id say 800ma

Transformer is 42VA or 42W. So 42W/100V or 0.42A or 420mA is the fuse needed but 500mA is okay giving more tolerance. 800mA gives more room and should work also.

I also noticed the sticker in the photo also says in Japanese .8A
I usually just follow what the maker says
