No one should be ahamed of showing them off. I do all the time. As a matter of fact my daughter just had her Sweet 16 this past November and I let them use my BASSment where my collection resides. The look on the faces of the 25+ teenagers was amazing. The coolest part was that one of them had their Zune with them and had discovered Sugarhill Gang's "Apache" and had become hooked on oldskool hip hop. What followed was a time warp where I eneded up spending about an hour and a half at my daughters request showing off my collection and vinatge audio gear. Needless to say, they were literally, and figuratively, blown away.

And I turn 41 in July 2010. :-D

Great story oldskool. I am definately not ashamed of my boomboxes. I talk about them among friends all the time. Some can't even wait to come buy and check em out. Every chance I get I use them. I always have one playing when doing yard work or working on and cleaning up the rides. My neighbors think they are cool also. Everbody likes the boomboxes.

Gsbadbmr that is such an inspiration. Wonderful story. This site is a awesome place. It sure would be nice if we all could schedule a time we could do a meet and greet and share the love in person while showing off some of the boomers. I bet it would draw a crowd. Some of my friends are overtakin by my collection. They definately are a good conversation piece. Talking about the old days when we were actually walking around with the boombox. How times have changed. Back in the day everybody wanted the biggest, loudest box you could find. Nowadays everyone wants the smallest ipod they can find. Go figure. It is our job to let everyone know how important the boombox was. Keep collecting.

snoop...i still walk around with my boxes ALL the time...even at 40 (soon to be 41) . People even ask if they can take pics...because when i do go out i'm dressed in my "oldschool gear" and big gold ropechain like back in the day  I even bring the boomboxes into restaurants when i grab something to eat...sure people stare and look but it's fine with me...i'm doing what i love to do and to me it's just normal. My 6 year old son loves going out with me and the boxes...my wife won't be caught dead with me and 1 of my boxes

...great story Gordie...whenever I take our version of the Subway (BART) I take one of my boxes (usually the M70) and the teenagers and adults from our era get a huge kick out of it. Most of them aren't aware that oldschool boomboxes still exist...they are just aware of the "boombox era"...and they are shocked at how loud they are...especially in those underground train stations... :-D :-D :-D
