The left channel on my VZ-2000 is not responding to tape, FM, FM stereo, AM, Aux, or LW signals. when tape is not playing, id I turn up the volume I hear the "sshh" sound from both channels, but only sound comes from the right.

I did a vigorous cleaning of balance, treble, bass, and all sliders, the power switch, record switch, all the top small function switches for AM, FM, FM stereo and all.

Despite all the switch cleaning I did I still have no luck on getting audio amplified signal from the left channel.

Cassette, radio and all show activity on the LED VU meter.

Thanks to baddboybill for his advices on opening it up. He is AWESOME!
It is pretty easy to break a bottom PC board and power switch without instructions.

I am seeking your kind advices and suggestions to fix this issue. It is not a bad boombox to take it apart. :-)

The record switch lever can be easily detached from the rear side of the top assembly to remove the cassette section. Also the top volume and tuning knobs can be easily removed by using a string slipping it under the knob to make loop to pull it out.

Wish I could help. Just stripped down my vz and found it ok to work on when following strip-down instructions, woulda been a nightmare without some guidance  Didn't spot anything that would help your problem tho, sorry. Hope you get it sorted

I hope I can figure ot the problem with the help of our experts here.

I am very sick now and just got back from ER for 103F fever and shivering. But whenever I get up I go and look at my VZ2000 and wish I could save him.

Bill, After seeing your VZ2000 I really wanted to have one. It got some good bass! I remember you mentioning about it. I got the red speakers. I love the red color on them and after cleaning with a brush tip on a vacuum cleaner and shining the dust caps, it looks awesome. Also I refinished the speakers grills. I need to assemble and take pics.  I believe these speakers were the best Sharp made for boomboxes.

Yeah I love my VZ2000 and selling my 767 so I could get it was a great move. I truly miss my 767 but one day I will get another 767/777 for my collection. But the VZ2000 is such a cool rare icon from the 80's and I remember it like yesterday being at District Furniture on Pulaski in Chi Town. I wanted one so bad but of course it was selling for around $1200 or so I believe and that would have taken me a long time to save for at $1/hr.

I was just wondering what would be the best way to remove the broken tip of the slider knobs from the plastic piece. :hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm:

I hate to use a sharp needle there because it will make marks and mess up the rectangular hole where the middle part of the slider piece mounts.

Immerse it in warm water? This looks like a hard black plastic. The heat deflection temperature must be high.
